I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere (and i'm sure it has) but I couldn't find anything when I searched. I just bought a 2016 340i, came with technology package. I used to have a leased 2017 340i with tech package and I remember it having the new iDrive system. The voice commands worked much much better in the 2017 than in my 2016. Is there a way to update my 2016 iDrive to the one that comes in the 2017?

Do you have a logo of the dog (Sirius) or does it show SiriusXM logo when you go to satellite radio?

Ok, as I expected your 2016 has the first generation of the NBT-EVO.

For general reference, F3x with Navigation, up through 2013 has the CIC system with Sirius Chips (and Sirius the Dog logo).

2014-2015 have the NBT Systems with Sirius Chips.

2016 were the first NBT-EVO systems with ID4, XM Chips and limited memory that often caused performance issues.

There were improvements in 2017 and 2018.

You could have a newer NBT-EVO system retrofitted, but quit simply, it would be rather expensive for what you get and you *might* lose your BMW Connected Drive in the process.
