Turbo engagement at strange times
Hi all, I have this strange issue where the turbos engage upon engine startup.
When I initially start the car, the engine will rev up and down. During this time there is a loud sucking noise and the turbos will engage. After 30s to a min, everything goes back to normal. There are no driveability issues after I've let the car settle down. The chargepipe was recently replaced. I do have code 2E0F (valvetronic deactivated) which comes back every time i clear it. Do you think the valvetronic (eccentric shaft actuator) is on its way out? Could a fault boost solenoid or leak in the vacuum lines cause this? Thanks |

Any codes? Try swapping boost solenoids and check for vacuum leaks. First time hearing this

There is only one code which keeps coming back (its a BMW code)- 2E0F (Valvetronic deactivated, adjustment fault too frequent).
Otherwise I don't have any generic OBD2 (PXXX) codes. |

Hi, I have this same issue. Same code and noise.
I can start my car first thing in the morning, and no turbo noise, same for when I leave work to go home. However if I ever take my car out at lunch time, I can guarentee that I will have this strange noise that sounds like the turbo is spooling but wastegate fully open expelling boost. This will go on for a minute and then..... nothing. I will be heading to an indy to get my valvetronic motor recalibrated. Hopefully this will remove the code and the noises. It is strange as it only happened after a power steering pump change, but that is in a totally different part of the engine. I can only imagine the battery was pulled causing the car to need recalibration of that motor. Once done I will report back on my findings! |

Thanks for the reply, I have tried this already, I can hear the valvetronic motor running for 15-30 secs after ignition on but not starting the car. I then attempt to clear the code and it comes back straight away. I was informed I should calibrate using ISTA? I saw on YouTube that the ISTA runs through 450 cycles and then 50 more, as long as the motor is still OK that should remove the 2E0F code? I have not got a laptop, so will need this to be done at an Indy for now.
