Drivetrain Malfunction

Received this message while driving. Car was shaking violently pulled over and let it sit for a minute and nothing. Drove it to the nearest auto parts store and they pulled error codes of mis firing and fuel rail/system pressure. I also noticed a strong odor from inside coming from the vents like burnt or rubber burning even from the outside. It’s a N55 btw. Where should I even start?

We need the codes that were thrown to make a determination.

I had very similar, if not the same experience. It ended up being a defective fuel injector as well as a defective fuel rail pressure sensor.

This pretty much happened to me while I was at Summit Point - Jefferson this past weekend. My GF and I were sharing the car back to back.

I'm going to replace the low pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump, and fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail. My theory is that if the low pressure fuel pump is failing or weak, it'll make the high pressure fuel pump work harder and fail.

It was 95F out this weekend the heat didn't help.

I myself have a verified bad fuel injector #1, and I do not have a P0087 code. So I am thinking you may have a bad #6 injector, and possibly something going on with the hpfp or fuel rail. I'm an N55 noob though.

Misfire codes are normally a faulty park plug, coil, or fuel injector.

Replaced under warranty or DIY?

Money on plug, coil or injector.

Easy low cost way to diagnose would be replace coil and plug on #4 & #6

Is there any DIY to remove the intake? On a N55.

OP are you E9x or F3x?

E9x N55 intake is all up in the way. F30 N55 intake is nicely tucked in front of the motor. You can do coils, plugs, injectors without removing the F3x n55 Airbox. The same cannot be said for E9x n55.

F06 actually. Isn’t it the same as the E9x platform?

Oh wow. The intake was a PITA to remove. I might as well just leave it.

Loved running on the Summit Point Circuit during FATT days before we moved to FL. Ran multiple times in my 99 Mustang Cobra SVT, 99 540 Sport and the 08 E90 335i Sport. Watched one of the instructors wreck his M3 coming out of Turn 10 a little too "hot". Rolled it several times, but fortunately, walked away uninjured, although more than a little embarrassed!
