Ned Headlight - Lights Pointing Down
I recently had my headlight replaced because someone back into the original one and scratched it.
Now both of my headlights are very low. Can only see about 6 feet in front of the car. Anyone know if this new light needs to be coded or do they just need to be manually adjusted with the screws? |

It's a brand new OEM light. The other light wasn't replaced so I find it odd that both of them are pointing low. Will definitely try and manually adjust and see how that goes.

Maybe they didn't connect the servo arm to the new light. If there is no dash light indicating a problem with the adaptives, that is very likely what happened.

If I checked the self adjusting when you turn on the ignition and it works that means the arm is connected correct? At that point maybe a sensor issue? |

If the self adjust at start works, then the servo is connected correctly. You SHOULD get a fault light if there is a component failure.
Found this, maybe it will help you diagnose. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=494479

Okay, it sounds like to me the shop that did the work incorrectly adjusted both headlights too low. A few questions:
1) With headlights set in auto mode, find a dark wall to reflect the lights on. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes, then restart the engine, you should see the headlights cycle up and down through their vertical adjustment. If they do, then you know the self-vertical adjustment works. On the 335i the adaptive headlights self level based on weight in the car, IIRC it is ever 30 seconds. But the lights only self level to a preset height based on an initial (mechanical) height setting. The mechanical level setting is set using an Allen wrench, 6MM IIRC. The procedure is pretty simple and I think someone already posted a video of it.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Also remember that with adaptive headlights the lights purposely point down and the drivers left (in North America) until the car is at speed.
If you put the car into reverse the lights should move up into standard driving mode. |
