Someone needs to dyno the M340i

BMW is always underrating their engines. Check it out:

The Supra is supposed to have about 335hp. I don't remember the exact figure, but I know there's no way it was rated at 374hp.

The M340i is rated at 382hp, but I wonder what it’s actually making.

So it seems they did not restrict the Supra/Z4 as much and they are running M340i numbers. I would say the M340i runs a little higher, but not over 400.

There's a video of a m340i xDrive drag racing a M2 Comp.. and it was a dead tie... not only does the M340i have what 40 less horsepower?? It also weighs more than a M2, It would be interesting to see the numbers.

The m340i in that race was xdrive, which could have contributed to its performance as well. Depending on the state of the track, temperature, tires, etc, the m2 will probably take longer to gain traction.

What matters isn't necessarily the ratio of hp (crank) to weight, or whp to weight. What ultimately matters is the ratio of power that's productively channeled to the ground divided by the weight of the car. This is assuming similar gearing, drag coefficients etc.

Yeah the M340i was on a moist part of the track M2 was on dry cement.. M2 actually jumped off the line quicker but the quick shifts of the M340i forced a tie... than again on the rolling drag the M2 mopped the floor with the M340i.. I'll link video check it out

That makes sense. That was my next question, whether the m2 was a manual.

* To the 6MT enthusiasts, I'm not implying that the manual is inferior, only that the ZF8 and DCT can shift more quickly than the average driver can with a manual. Of course winning a drag race, or any other type of race on a track, isn't the only way to enjoy a car either.

M3 has never been about 0-60 . It's about the sum of all parts, and mainly its handling prowess/trackability. Looks wise too, much more aggressive and a great street presence. Wheels arches , power dome hood, CF roof , quad tips ..etc etc. I mean you can tune an M3 & it will mop the floor with a tuned M340i. Just saying for argument sake. Not bashing the m340i at all, great car to be honest. Had one on order till the dealer screwed up some minor details on delivery day. By the way those lease
deals on the BMW websites are absolute trash.
Never ever sign one of those deals or even use it as a reference. It's always a base model with just premium package at most. And read the fine print they always want some ridiculous amount of drive off $$ like $4,999 with $3k towards down payment / cap reduction. That's a big pass

Has anyone had a hard time getting one to lease for $589 though? I visited two dealers and spent HOURS at each one. Both wanted over 1k a month for a M340i and wouldn't go below 500 for a 330. Even on a loaner. Finally I found a broker that located M340i for ~$500.

That's still a decent deal. The broker I used got a 58k MSRP with 2500 down (plus MSDs) to $480.

Wow that's great! I should add mine is a 15k mile lease so it's a bit more than it could have been otherwise.

I got a loaner the other day from BMW while mine was in the shop. A very very fast car. 0-120 MPH is very very fast and the car is very planted. Brakes are very good also. Only problem is door issue steering wheel issue. If you have an eye for detail you will spot these two defects. The steering wheel issue is the major engineering defect issue. It’s quite obvious for anyone with a good eye. One other bad part is fuel economy if you are on it will drop to around 14.2 MPG in the city. My current car is a 328D which gets around 34-35 MPG in the city and mid to upper 40’s on highway. The new M340i is much faster and more quiet. It consumes twice as much fuel in the city but is not twice as fast. Definitely much faster though but not twice as fast nor does it have twice the top speed either. I do wish they sold it with the newer 6 cylinder Diesel engine. That would have been quite nice

I kinda agree about the gas mileage, there's a huge amount of consumption when your giving er, I went for a group cruise and after 30 mins of fun driving I already burned through half my tank... again tho worth the smiles it put on my face
, but it's pretty good in comfort I find

At least the tank is bigger than the f30 was, so a full tank lasts just as long :P

(My justification for heavy foot!)

M340i vs 340i MPPSK

Here's a video comparing my 2018 340i MPPSK RWD (no other mods) to the M340i from 50-200 Km/h (30-125 MPH)

I have to say the M340i is a bit quicker.

Keep in mind to that upper one is the Euro spec M340i.. probably small difference but the US model has more power
