Hanging Steel-BMW SC Plant Expansion Pic's

I said I would periodically post pic's of the SC BMW Plant expansion. The 1.2 Mil sq/ft new Assembly Hall reached a milestone this week....it has gone vertical. The big building in the background is the Paint Shop Expansion which is still under construction. The 2nd Gen X3 will start production here in 2010 and a yet unannounced 4th "X" model will join the party in the near future. Thanks! PalBay

Nope......my source who will eventually tell me the model....hints it's the X4.The X4 will be based on the new 2nd Gen X3.The internal BMW lingo is-SAS-Sports Activity Sedan. It will be positioned above the new X3 like the X6 vs the X5. It will look very similar to the X6....very coupish.BMW Senior Mgt in Munich is "very" happy w/ the "look" of the X6.The X4 will actually try and match up the "feel" and "look" and "driving dynamics" of a sedan ( 3 Series) w/ the higher ride height, X drive AWD,and bigger interior room, all normally associated w/ the "X" models.Another BMW attempt to create a completely new auto category ,i.e like the X6 and forthcoming "PAS" Progressive Activity Sedan. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds!!!!??? Thanks! PalBay

well hopefully the X4 will have a better fate than the X7.

BMW CEO looking for further cost cuts
"The first part of Reithofer’s plan called for the cancellation of BMX’s X7 program, according to Automotive News. Had the X7 made it to production, it would have been a large SUV intended to take on Land Rover’s Range Rover."

Always speculate....keeps things interestingI think $4.00 gas got the X7.It was directly aimed at the Mercedes GL-Class.Many would argue...including those inside at BMW...that the segment is covered by the 2nd Gen X5....third row seat, etc... Thanks! PalBay

what I found amazing is they were going to build something bigger than an X6. Do these guys ever shop in the real world, were would you park it. Where I live the Hummer was popular with all the trophy wives until they went to the grocery store and had to circle to find a space big enough to park it. It didn't take long for the hummers to get replaced with porsche cayenne's.

If they make an X4 my wife might trade in her 330 for it. She test drove a X3 and said size was ok but just didn't handle like her 330.

ok I knew I had read the X2 rumor somewhere, so now we have X7,X4,X2. Guess that pretty well covers it.

I must confess..... the X4 concept sounds very interesting to this future X6 owner/serious car enthusiast...... I will keep a close watch on this one!!!!! Thanks! PalBay
