LA Chapter CCA events

Savage BMW is the sponsor for both the Fall Autocross on September 21 and the Winter Autocross on October 19. If you attended the last autocross, you know how generous Savage BMW is providing raffle prizes.

Remember, you need to pre-register to reserve your place. There won't be registration open the day of the event.

Prices have gone up slightly, but you can register at the old price if you sign up for both days at one time.

Find the registration form at: http://www.bmwclubla.org/club.php

An Old Fashioned Sunday Drive, Sunday, September 28 - Remember when the whole family piled into the car and went on a nice relaxing drive? And maybe there was a little treat thrown in, perhaps a pretty little country road or a tasty Egg Cream. Well, I have no idea what an Egg Cream actually is, but I do know where you can find an excellent road course to show your family and friends.

If you are a licensed driver 18 or over, you can load up your car with as many passengers as legally allowed and take them for a ride on the Road Course and Oval at Auto Club Speedway (California Speedway). Add lunch and maybe an "E-Ticket" ride with an instructor and you have an afternoon that beats the heck out of mowing the lawn or washing the windows.

Driving Schools, Car Control Clinics, September 27, 28, 29 at Auto Club Speedway Whatever your driving skill level is, there's a place for you. Whether you need to learn the basic handling skills and car control or you want to satisfy your need for speed in a safe and controlled environment, we have a school for you. And remember, we do accept non-BMW vehicles and non club members. If your friends or co-workers are jealous of you, tell them to sign up and come on out.

Our recent format of 2 one-day schools has proven very popular. You can sign up for a day at the Car Control Clinic and a day on the Sports Car Course, or you can just chose 1 or 2 days just on the Sports Car Course. If you are an advanced student, instructor or Club Racer, sign up for Monday's school on the Interior Course. Monday is a great day for instructors to practice the skills that made them instructors to start with. And Club Racers can use the day to practice and refine their driving abilities without worrying about being competitive at the same time.

Los Angeles Chapter Elections - November 12 General Meeting - European Motor Works in Arcadia.

Do you want to be more involved? Do you have ideas to improve the club? Would you like to see new events? If you have just a few hours a month to dedicate to your club, you can make a difference. Nominations open next month for the 2009 Board of Directors. There are several current board members who can't or aren't going to serve next year; we need you to take up the slack.

A Description of Offices has been posted to the website http://www.bmwclubla.org/club.php (Bylaws and Elections). Please review the offices and see which one fits your skills best. If you absolutely can't serve as an officer, please nominate someone you feel will do a good job.

In addition to voting in November for the 2009 Board, you will also be voting on Bylaw revisions. The proposed revisions will be published in the next Whispering Bomb. The current Bylaws are posted on the website.

Tire Rack Street Survival® has been nominated for consideration for the American Express Members Project!

If they get enough support they could qualify for funding - the top project will receive $1.5 million, the second place project will receive $500,000, the third place project will receive $300,000 and two additional projects in the Top Five will receive $100,000 in funding.

Whether a cardmember or not, everyone is invited to participate by commenting on and nominating their favorite projects online. You can help Street Survival secure much needed funding by spending just a few painless minutes at the Members Project website.

This is the first round –please take action now and nominate Street Survival. Just click on the link below, when the page opens, click in the center "Nominate this Project". That will take you through the login process. Once you have logged in, enter the project code in the search window and add your vote to the 800+ that have already been cast.

If you have every known a teen-aged driver or been a teen-aged driver, you understand how important this program is.

You do not need to be an AmEx cardmember to nominate the project, but you will need to be one to vote should Street Survival make it to the top 25.

There are only 21 days left to enter the 37th Annual BMW CCA raffle. Unless there's a really good reason why you wouldn't want to win a new BMW, you should go immediately to http://www.bmwcca.org/index.php?pageid=raffle and buy your ticket(s). Someone has to win, it might as well be you.
