Don't think its anymore than that! Guessing you're asking due to the price?
My local BMW dealer just charged me £330 for the 1st oil service and I wanted to know what else they did, imagine my disappointment when the said they give the car a check. Basically in the garage for a total of 2hrs! Went with it as the car is under warranty but if it wasn’t would have gone elsewhere, hard to justify that amount for parts and labour. Speaking of servicing why the hell my car got the running in service called out at 264 miles on the clock? And the dealership said it's normal because it either mileage or time whichever comes first? Car was built in Feb, collected in March, the system says running in service is due in July so the car got service today, what should I do now? Keep treating the car like in running-in mode and demand another service later on? Also the dealership broke the car with a software update and now the car is dead... oh joy

Debo, run in service is 1200 miles or 1 year AFAIK. Not 3 months!
I paid £250 after haggling, some quoted over £400. Just oils and filter and "check". I only went to BMW as it's the all important run in service. No more services at BMW for me after that, indy all the way, makes no difference to warranty and get a better job too. |

The head technician at the workshop gave me all the story about the crap factory fluids etc. and he said, now you have good oil in it, don't drive it like you stole it, but you can be more spirited now. Last edited by _debo; 07-05-2019 at 07:20 AM.. |

The car at the moment says the next servicing is in 15k miles. Admittedly both the car and their internal system, yes, they have a system that run remote diagnostics apparently stated clearly that the servicing was due in July, go figure.
I'm still waiting for an official reply from BMW though. |

CBS varies the mileage to service, not the DATE.
Service items all have a fixed backstop date, but the mileage will vary for CBS items. I.e. brake fluid is fixed 2 years, not mileage dependant, so never varies with CBS. Oil service is 2 years OR mileage based on CBS. So you car might say 15000 miles but it will come up due in 2 years if you have done less than the mileage. M car Run in service is fixed 1200 miles, not a variable CBS item. Did your car say it was due the run in service or just a service? Quite possible your car was set with wrong PDI date by some idiot at rhe dealers. I can't remember what mine said, but is anyone on here due the run in service, does it give a due date as well as mileage remaining? |

I don't remember what it said unfortunately. The due date of July I saw wasn't on the car though, it was on the desktop screen of the terminal of the representative.
I do completely agree with you, which is also the reason why I kept questioning the service department but I got shitty answers despite telling them what they were saying didn't make any sense from a mechanical stand point of view. However I got the same CBS bullshit from the online representative of BMW and BMW_UK on Twitter as well as from the Genius... it's quite unsettling that the message is consistent across the channels though. Do you know if there is a phone number that goes direct to someone more or less technical? Shall I file a complain instead of just the contact form as advised previously? |

Just BS / waffle really.
Oils have aged over time? you only had the car 3 months I think? As I said before CBS affects mileage to service, not the due date of service. If yours said JULY for run in service then something was wrong in the service / setup / dates. I.e. In the UK the date between services is 2 years, OR less where CBS mileage says so. The DATE will stay at 2 years. They don't even seem to understand how there own cars work.. |

My thought exactly, I replied back along your same lines, also reminding them that there is no difference between factory fluids and replaced ones and kindly demanded another servicing at 1200 miles.
It's funny because they tell you that it's ok, but also to keep doing the running in procedure, it's a utter contradiction in its own. |

Someone on here who has yet to have the run in service could look in idrive and it should tell them miles to go and a backstop date.
I never looked for a date on mine as no need. |

The service date can be from production date not PDI date. My car was produced in May registered in June my service dates all start in May....

Absolutely, still, my car started production in Feb 2019 and was delivered in March, so it's bonkers that they did the RIS at the end of June after basically 3 months.
