Evosport Power Pulley review

First off, I would like to thank Brad, Dale and the rest of the crew at Evosport for taking part in the continuing build of my M3. It was nice meeting you guys and keep up the fantastic work over there!.

Now onto the Power Pulley review... all I can say is WOW. What a great mod for the E9x M3. For all of you who know of Evosport, you know that these guys don't mess around when it comes to performance mods. For all of you who haven't heard or don't know of Evosport, these guys know everything there is to know about on our M3's especially on the performance side of it. I took my M early this morning to do the pulley install. At first, I was kind of skeptical with the 'advertised" gains from this mod. So Brad and I decided that it was best to do a before and after Dyno to show the results. My M was Dyno'd bone stock, engine wise. The vehicle was left on the dyno for the install and was not moved at all during the 4 hours that I was waiting there. Upon completion of the install, we ran it again on the dyno. Keep in mind that I'm running a 20x11 3-piece wheel with a 305-25-20 size tire out rear. As you can see in the graph my stock(pre-install) run came in at 333.63 rwhp and 250.54 ft-lbs of torque. On the post install run the numbers came in at 350.97 rwhp and 257.39 ft-lbs of torque. The numbers are true and I have included the Dyno results in this thread along with a short footage of my car on the dyno. The gains are noticeable and the revs are quicker with the pulleys. Again, props out to Evosport for developing such a great product that yields "as advertised" results. Thanks again to Brad and Dale, and I look forward to adding more of your mods to my M in the very near future....

Wow, that's a pretty impressive gain. I would definately love to get this but I'm wondering if this would void the warranty?

They would have to prove it. It is just freeing up power that is already there.

Very impressed with the gains but extremely disappointed with the stock numbers. I suppose it is due to the 20's. Seems like M3's are dynoing all over the place, 330-360 wheel.

I am very interested what the pulleys underdrive.

Driving across Europe I saw the oil temp rise to 115-120 when drivne hard in 34-38 degrees C

Where does the power come from ? Any issues with temperature ?

What are the upsides/downsides of these pulleys?

Very interested to know since it seems like one of those items where you wonder why BMW didn't build them like this and it is a cheap mod.

I mean, other items that release power (eg freeer flowing cats, exhausts, intakes etc) you can understand why BMW build them the way they do since they are always having to look at the NVH trade offs.

But this seems like a completely free mod.........there must be some downside or additional risk with it.

Cheers

How dealer visible is the pulley mod ? Would they see it without looking at a service ?

Can you post up a larger picture of the dyno plot? The reason I ask is because I noticed on the video at the end there are reasonably large differences in the air/fuel ratios, which will have some impact on results. Going by your posted plot, the differences don't look that much once the AFRs settled, but it is hard to tell because the picture you have posted is quite small...

In terms of oil temps, nothing wrong with 115-120C - RS4s run on average 110-115C in normal driving, under hard driving they will reach 120C+ easily. I once read higher oil temps generally mean more power (at the expense of engine durability).

Most synthetics burn at 130+ from memory

Sweet man, I wish I would have dynoed mine when i got the Rogue Pulleys installed.

Also, why does the video say E92, it appears you have an E90?

You are right... my stock numbers came in the 333 rwhp range due to the fact that I'm running on 20" wheels...

Thanks, yeah it really helps to have a before and after dyno to see the results. This was something that I wanted to do prior to installing the pulley set.

As for the video, yes I do have an E90 not an E92. They'll correct it soon...

Thanks again.

I tried to post the original Dyno Graph that I have on a file but the forum guidelines wouldn't allow me saying that it's too big. So I had to resize it to allow me to post it on here. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to do it? Or PM me and I'll email you a copy of it.

Thanks.

I really like that the OP left the car on the Dyno -- strapped down -- during the entire install. Even though I HATE roller dyno's, I've got to commend the OP for leaving it strapped and eliminating this variable from the equation.
Thanks. That was precisely the point. There have been some doubters, so this was done with the best efforts to eliminate any variables.

In fact, here are some additional tid-bits that some might find interesting:
  • The pre dyno was done in the morning, the post was done mid day with hoter ambient air temps (same SAE correction of 1.02)
  • We did three post dyno's and the one we posted was the middle as far as performance. The best one gained 1 hp and 2 tq more then what we posted
  • we re-ran the car with the customer here so he could see it with his own eyes

All of this was done so as to help cut down the speculation.

Thanks
brad

I disagree, most dyno's on the dynojet have been ~350 wheel with Vadim of VRP getting 362 to the wheels on a dynojet.

Evosports own stock dyno was 349 wheel, I wonder if that was on 18's or 19's (hoping 19's).

Maybe otoupalik can shed some light as to what m3's are averaging. I got my E46 dyno'd at evosport and it put out 275. 333 to the wheels is not the level of increase the E92 should be making. I'll have to schedule a time to get my E92 dyno'd and the pulleys installed.

I have two friends with Infiniti G35's with aftermarket pulleys. Both cars make a very disturbing belt noise when the engines are cold which is "normal". Do the Evosport pulley suffer the same problem? Also, are there warrenty issues (I know it has been asked, but I haven't seen it directly answered)?

Thanks

There is no downside to this mod at all as it does not modify the factory harmonics or dampening. The gains are very noticeable especially in the higher RPMs and revs are quicker.

No belt noise whatsoever with the Evosport pulley installed. As far as warranty goes, in order for your dealer to void a warranty claim they would have to be able to prove that the actual mod caused the damage. With the Evosport pulleys they do not modify the factory Harmonics and Dampening. No dimming in the lights, no A/C issues, etc... by far the best bang for your buck mod I've seen for the E9x M3.
