bro this ish is pissing me off haha. I pulled the lever.. it unlocks not even half way. so one side is up.

I even went through the wheel well like this guy:

I find that latch wire and it's way difficult pull. can't stick my hands in there, I guess N55 has more stuff in the way than in the video. so I use tools to pull on it.

Doesn't work. so now I can't even put the hood down to lock it. so one side is up barely.

Smh!!! help!

When I first pulled it, the driver side didn't pop up. Second through the 43rd time I pulled, no sound at all.

Stupid wire was covered in rubber layer. my pliers effed that up.

The cable broke right when I was looking at my car before purchasing. The PO was kind enough to have the dealer replace it all. Works perfect

Leave it to BMW to cover complicate the shit out of stuff. I cringe every time I have to open my hood. It's always felt a bit janky to me and likely to break at some point. It feels like too much effort is required when I pull the latch -- I'm expecting the plastic handle to break inside, or the cable to break, or something. Both sides of the hood don't come up at exactly the same time either. It doesn't seem like a well designed system to me.

Take a look at this thread. It looks like it's pretty easy to get once you remove your whole wheel well liner.

Yeah I saw that.. but it seems like the N55 engine bay has more things packed inside. so it's not as easy as it is for the car in that thread.

I'll take it in this coming week. I hope the wire is just out of place

On one hand, I've never really had an issue with the hood release mechanism, and I do my own maintenance, so I'm under there with some regularity, and I actually like not having to reach under the hood to search for a safety latch release. That said, I did like the little lever that popped out from the grill on my old E46 back when the kidney grills were a part of the hood.

In terms of over-complicating things, there is something to be said about the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...I really do wish there was an oil dipstick so I could check my oil level without driving around the block a few times.
