S5....Beautiful

I have seen plenty of A5 at dealers but I witnessed my first S5 on the highway today. At first from about 1/4mi away I thought it was a Aston Martin merging into traffic. Of course I recognized the S5 on my double take but what a beautiful car from behind!

It is beautiful. The interior makes our E92 M3's look outdated. Seats are nice, dash is beautiful... But we have more legroom for rear seat and better performance. I wouldn't mind having an S5 though...

The problem is really the front end of the car....how could Audi make such a gorgeous butt but such an ugly front end.....

I dont' think it's that bad. The front end has those awesome headlamps and the signature grill.

I sat in a red S5 a couple weeks ago at a local dealership and it is really nice inside and out, a beautiful design. However, upon closer inspection the interior wasn't as nice as I thought or what others have expressed. For example, I'm pretty sure the entire door panel is made up of several types of plastic/rubber materials. There was no leather (or very, very little) and no nice stitching to go along with it. The M3 interior's simplicity/clean lines, ambient lighting and materials are pretty hard to beat at this price point IMHO.

The RS5 will be a step up I'm sure.

The M3 is not much different in this respect. The doorpanel on our cars I'm not sure that it has leather because know for sure that where the speaker mounts, it's vinyl (I had the panel apart). The resting area of the door MIGHT be leather but I didn't check.

The stitching and tightness of the leather in the S5 I like better. Honestly, I the only part of the interior I like better on the M3 is the seat belt thingies and the ambient lighting.

The center panel of the door and the arm rest are both Nappa Leather, likewise the seats and the Carbon Firbe trim on the center consel, dash and doors is the real thing. The door handles on the door panels is also real alloy and the rest that is plastic is top quality soft feel.

I am surprised that someone felt there wasn't the quality standard of his M3. I know I haven't spent a decent amount of time with the M3 compared to the S5 but from what I saw and felt I would have thought the Audi was at least as good.

no car is an M3 except an M3

still, the S5 is a gorgeous car. styling wise, i think it has the upper hand on the m3. still, the M3 is many more things that the S5 is not, nor will ever be. great car nonetheless. this timeless design will influence audi for years to come.

The S5 is flat out hot. If I bought one, I'd probably sleep in the garage just to wake up to it every morning, but the performance is disappointing. Audi did not intend for the S5 to compete with the M3 -- that's what the RS5 is slotted to do. I imagine that when the RS5 is available in a year or two, it'll be the complete package in terms of looks and performance.

Beautiful

I respect Audi for the cars they are making and the beautiful designs of their cars. from the big gorgeous S8 to the astonishing R8, the only ugly car they are producing is the Q7 which anyway is an SUV.

S5 looks good but the performance is dissappointing. Now a TT I6 or even a TT V8 would be amazing in that car. Actually lets be honest, I'd rather a TT V8 M3 anyday of the week

I'm really curious to know how they will treat the RS5 if it's supposed to be a M3 killer. The M3 is already comparable to the R8 IN SOME AREAS. If they make the RS5 to BE a M3 killer then there would be no point in the R8, even with the V10.

That is until you pull up next to an RS5.
