Car Ideas...
6 months left on the missus L&K Octavia Estate pcp, it’s the 150bhp 2.0 TDI.
It has been a GREAT car and we both still love it so weighing up keeping it and sticking a map on it for a bit more poke or replacing it. Only a few minor reasons to replace, when we got it you couldn’t spec heated steering wheel (wife has Raynauds) or dynamic chassis control, and the suspension is a little bit firm for a family car that dcc would have helped. The engine is ok, a bit punchy but could do with some more grunt for the short slip roads where we live and it will be 4 years old so out of warranty and only getting older. Currently shortlisted to two cars. A Tiguan SEL with the 2l 230bhp TSI engine, or an L&K Superb Estate with the 272bhp 2l TSI engine. Requirements are: must not have sport suspension, heated steering wheel/front (and rear though not a deal breaker as can get aftermarket pads) seats, in the 5 or 6 bracket 0-60 and a boot size the same as the Octavia (610 litres) or bigger and flat, no load lip. I’m not going to get into any pcp arguments so budget is around 30k, with both the above weighing in around 32k after discounts. Kodiaq was considered but discount is less so would get a less spec car than the above and slower for same price. Any other cars I might not have thought of? Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 6 waggon might be worth a look, although you'd have to go for the bigger engines (IMHO) if you wanted the 5/6 second feel to the acceleration... and the infotainment is a little outdated in look/feel... But well worth a look, anyway...
Many manufacturers seem to be going away from larger engines... Might be where you stumble with the 0-60 target...

Keep it. Map it if necessary. Spend the money you save on holidays, weekends away, man cave toys, and maybe a box of chocs for the Mrs.

L&K - Laurin & Klement trim - is like a prestige/premium branding/specification point in certain Skoda ranges... a High spec trim...

At that sort of money you should be able to get into a C or E class estate. 20% discount available on those.

Not touching merc don’t like them! Budget is around 30k after discounts on pcp.
As mentioned on the other thread we really like the cx5 but the tech is too dated and the engines aren’t good enough..... |

I can't praise the X2 enough. It's just been quite fantastic for the money.
Only problem would be to get in budget it would be best looking at Pre Reg route, MSport suspension delete on an MSport would be custom order. Also depends if the looks are acceptable but in the correct spec and options meets the brief.

Ignore the badge, but as an outside choice, Vauxhall Astra 1.6T Elite Estate. 200bhp, surprising rapid (recent hire car so it got a good test) 45 mpg on runs, handles surprising well, very comfortable, sports comfort leather seats very supportive, okay tech and most importantly they are cheap as chips! Must admit i enjoyed this far more than the A3 Sportback 2.0 TSFi (again 200bhp) i had from Sixt last month. You could buy a year old one and throw it away after a few years and it will still have cost less than a PCP on a £30k car.

I have seen very similar deals too, for the price point i honestly don't think there is better at the moment. I should also add that the Elite come with Heated Steering Wheel, Heated front and outer rear seats. Slightly down on boot space at 540lt compared to the Octavia and no boot lip. Meets the criteria perfectly.

Well, the deposit has now been placed. Went for the Tiguan 2.0Tsi 230 SEL in Caribbean Blue with Rear Cam, Heated Steering Wheel and Power Boot.
Ruled another Octavia out in the end as the MK3 is EoL and a new one is coming out later in the year and it didn't feel like making sense to replace ours with one about to be dated. Decent engines in the new one don't exist yet so that wasn't an option. Only 20-22 weeks to wait now! |
