maybe a stupid question...if the phone is lock to rogers, that mean I need to roger service if I am using others. Then why not I just sign up with rogers and get the phone for $399 since I have to use roger to get this phone working. What is the advantage to get it from you beside no contrat?

16GB is $299 with a 3 year contract. They have that special plan right now - $35 voice plus $30 for 6GIG data (then it's an additional $11 for voicemail! - I HATE YOU ROGERS).

The no contract thingy is worth something. I'm tied to Rogers for 3 years. Yucky.

If you are going to pay a $400 premium for the hardware (locked mind you) you might as well as sign the contract with Rogers/Fido and pay the cancellation fee if you decide to cancel later on. Up front cost versus back end cost.

depends on how much cancellation fee they will ask when you want to....
$299 + tax + activation fee + cancellation fee = I dont know?
700OBO is pretty reasonable to me considering 16G iphones are going $800++++ in ebay.

FYI, from Rogers

...a Data Early Cancellation Fee (DECF) applies if, for any reason, your service is terminated prior to the end of your 36-month term. The DECF is the greater of (i) $25 or (ii) $5 per month remaining in the term, to a maximum of $100 (plus applicable taxes)...

Why am I paying a $400 premium?

I can ask for $100,000 for my E90 on eBay but what would it really go for?

IMO, It's pretty pointless to pay 400 dollar premium if the phones are locked to certain service provider. Having said that, if someone's looking into buying an Iphone without having to be in an obligation. This might be a good buy vs. retail price.. But then again, prices will go down like crazy within a few month.

If your an existing customer, you can get it for 225$ with 3 year re-new contract. Then sell off the phone for 500$ and buy something you like.

Yeah I couldn't resist that great offer, so I picked a white 16gb iphone last night

I'm loving the 3G on this phone- only problem is that it sucks the battery life like no tomorrow!

Here's what you'll pay to cancel the service:
$36 - Activation
$175 - Early Termination Fee
$70 - One month of service

So, if their calculations are correct, and they seem to be, that means:
8GB iPhone Canceled: $480
16GB iPhone Canceled: $580
8GB iPhone Unlocked from AT&T prepaid: $599
16GB iPhone Unlocked from AT&T prepaid: $699
