Spoiler PPF question

Hello!

So, I have an M Performance CF trunk lid spoiler in my garage, which I want to wrap in Suntek Clear Matte PPF (i have a roll of 60" by 12", a couple of squeegies, and will get a spray bottle) to give it a "dry carbon" aka matte finish.

For anyone who has DIY experience with wrapping PPF, would it be better to wrap it first while it is unmounted, or mount first and then wrap over it?

If unmounted, I would need to clamp it down in place somehow, to be able to get the film on there properly stretched, yes?

Any suggestions how to do that without damaging the CF?

Welcome any tips and tricks before I take on this DIY

You don't have to stretch the film. It doesn't go around the edges. Cut out a piece for the top of the spoiler and put it on. Like you'd put a screen protector on a phone. If you want, you can cut out a section for the rear of the spoiler, but it's not necessary.

Spitballing here but maybe use the 3M tape and attach it to something that gives you good access to the bottom so you can properly stretch and cut then use dental floss or fishing line to disconnect

For sure I want to cover whole visible area, because it will mess with me to see gaps of wet carbon in between matte look. So it has to be one piece over the front and back.

Man thanks for that idea, just had a "why didnt I think of that" moment lol. Genius!

I have 3M self cutting tape to do the cutting, might re do where I put it. And got fishing line also for removal of stock spoiler from trunk, so that's covered.

But this is the way for sure. 3M tape to my work table and no need for clamps. Wooooot.

Let us know how the cutting tape works. I have some ideas where I want to use it.

BTW, you may want these items to clean up the old adhesive and help bond the new tape. I haven't seen anyone talk about the promoter but for the price what the heck, right. I literally just bought them. So I haven't had an opportunity to try them, yet.

Oh, forgot that you were going with a matte PPF.
