So my N55 HPFP gave out today at 51k miles...

I have a 2014 435i xdrive with 51k miles, it was on a burger tuning JB4 map 1 (2 psi over stock boost), no hard accelerations, car went into limp mode out of absolutely nowhere. Wierd knocking coming from the pump, and there does not seem to be a solid and tested HPFP upgrade with lots of reviews or backing. Bought one from FCP euro for 300 rather than the 1000 they were going to charge me at the stealership.

Car has a catless downpipe and intake. Thats it, no prior issues.

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?

HPFP issues pretty much ended in 2011 (mostly on N54s) when they finally came up with a good pump after several tries. I would put this down to "parts break" and bad luck.

It does have some mods if this happened on a totally stock car I would say it is a fluke. There was a recall on the LPFP I believe.

I'm not a fan of the stock HPFP...when I fist tuned my car it just kept crashing and it was really annoying.
I'm going on 22k miles on TTFS/XDI HPFP and it's bulletproof.... unlike other parts on the F30 platform when you start pushing the car.
If you're keeping the car for a long time...it may be a viable option for you.
Hope you get this resolved

Hoping to keep it "OEM" i bought the FCP Bosch HPFP kit for 300 rather than the 1000 the dealer quoted me and i have the hookup on an install from a BMW tech. If this one fails i will just throw my wallet at an aftermarket one and see if it resolves the issue. I dont expect this issue to happen again for another 100k miles though. Thanks brother.

yes there was, but this is about as mild of a tune as you can put on a car. So i assume this isnt the issue. People are running pure stage 2 turbo kits on stock high pressure fuel pumps with no issue. And this did not occur during acceleration. But then again, im not a professional, im just using my own logic so i could be wrong. Thanks brother.

I think the N55s May have had an issue with hpfp. The B58 is more solid. No hpfp issue or charge pipe issues.

Well the B58 has no equivalent to the N55 charge pipe since it's an air to water intercooler. There is a charge pipe that goes from the turbos to the intercooler which didn't really break on the N55 either. For that pipe, the B58 version has a better flex design with a rubber sleeve in the middle which should be less prone to failure.

BMW fixed issues with the HPFP a while ago. There's no reason to believe the B58's HPFP is any more reliable than the N55's as of yet. Sometimes parts just break. Especially if you have a tune.

Apparently from the research i have done it is the same exact HPFP that was put in the N54.

it is the same HPFP found in the N54 which did have issues. I actually did blow my stock charge pipe but that was because of my higher boost levels so now i have upgraded. What doesnt make sense is the people running aftermarket turbos pushing 18 psi on the stock HPFP without an issue, while mine blew with a basically stock tune. (2psi over stock). I may have just gotten unlucky.

The F30 N55 definitely does not have the same exact HPFP that the N54 had. BMW went through several revisions before they finally fixed the issue. I don't know what research you did, but I can assure you that it is a revised part.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with "pushing 18psi on the stock HPFP". Did your charge pipe blow? Or did your HPFP blow? You make it sound like they're related somehow. F30 N55 HPFP seem to be fairly reliable even in tuned cars with stock turbos.

No Sorry if i came off that way i wasnt trying to relate the two instances about my charge pipe and hpfp, and I may be mistaken about the HPFP being the same as N54 as well i did see something about a revision but nothing ever gave me specifics on what the revisions were. People run a lot of boost on pure stage 2 turbo kits, thats the "18 psi" i was talking about. My HPFP definitely did blow i had it looked at by a tech at my local BMW dealer that is my friend.

My charge pipe blew while running 12 psi with my jb4 last year. so i upgraded.

My HPFP blew yesterday while cruising at 50mph.
