Is Display Key available for the G20?

Hey,

Is there anyone with a G20 that has a display key? I hear conflicting stories about whether it is possible to have a display key. I cannot find information about this in the configurator.

Thanks!

From my research, I believe there is, but for Neatherlands. Best to Check with the BMW of your Country or Sales rep.

Yeah, I really don't get why you'd want one. Plus, I imagine the replacement cost is quite considerable.

Saw a video from Kies retrofitting one
Too big, too slow, basically a useless gimmick unless you like throwing your keys on a bar for the girls

It's useful in cars where you have remote parking (G30). Display Key doesn't need line of sight to work and has much wider radius than regular keys. As an example, you should be able to open/close doors from a flat three stories high without direct line of sight.

As for comparing vs the app, display key is much faster.

That's what BMW Connected is for. Everyone always carries their phone, why carry another big remote control

Does this key need to be charged? I just imagine owning this key with an electric car and having to make sure your car AND your key are charged at all times

As I said before, it makes sense when the car had remote parking. And it is much faster than the app.

Yes you need to. The key usually last for about 4 weeks. So if you have a wireless charger in the car, then it's about placing the key there while you drive once a week or so.

It does not come with a display key sadly. You get a regular ole key.

It does come with a digital key (a credit card) that you can use as your key to unlock and drive the vehicle.

I haven't gotten my phone to work as a digital key yet, but they said they're fixing the issue since the placement mat where the phone should be is registering the phone as Apple Pay and my Apple Pay credit cards keeps popping up rather than registering it as a digital key.

A solution without a problem is what that key is

Ugh, no thanks! Just fix the connected drive app and let me do it from my phone. Also let me use my phone as the key as that would be one less thing to carry around!

I thought that I read you could get the Display Key if you order one of the various packages and that with the Display Key comes a non-Display Key. Hopefully someone can confirm. Thanks.

You aren't 100% right, that's what my dealer told me, but I can only confirm for Dutch market.
