Wireless Charge Pad Overheating iPhone X
I have a brand new M340i and my wireless charge pad yesterday overheated my iPhone. I actually got the same overheating message you get when you leave the phone in the sun. Anyone else have this happen? I had no case on the phone.

Seems to be an issue on not just the 3 series, I've seen similar posts on the 5, X5, and X7 forums, I would avoid using it, I remember one guy on the X5 forums said his phone overheated so bad he had to replace it

Are you using Carplay while the phone is charging? Wireless charging can make phones a little warmer than wired charging and using something like CarPlay will also increase the phone's temperature. Typically when you charge at home, you're not using the phone so it can charge without issues.
Also, make sure you are centered on the charging pad. I believe iPhone charging coils are centered on the phone as are the coils in the charging tray in the car. |

Mine gets a little warm but doesn’t overheat. This is on a 45 minute trip. And phone is in a case.
I have noticed sometimes the phone’s screen is on and then it’s hotter. Was your screen on ? I also leave the cover open. |

I don't have wireless charging (6NW) but when I lay my iPhone on the pad, the NFC automatically brings up Apple Pay Wallet (and it never closes) and the phone does heat up, although not to the point of overheating. Not sure why this is happening on a consistent basis or what the impact is on my battery but it is disconcerting and not apparently related to charging.

I tried it yesterday. Charging itself doesn't heat it up. But using carplay does. Also, carplay drains more power than the wireless pad can deliver

Ok so the latest on this...when using CarPlay and Apple Maps navigaton the phone overheats wether it is in the wireless charging tray or not. This seem to be pointing the overheating to the CarPlay side of the house.
The other thing that is happening is that half way through my phone calls the call audio begins to lag. The person on the other end hears me a few seconds after i complete my sentence. In addition to all that i have intermittent connectivity and streaming issues with Pandora Radio through CarPlay. Seems like the phone wants to use the cars wifi network then realizes it needs to use LTE instead. Lots of quirks I must say...I think an update is needed but not sure if its from Apple or BMW or if we have a hardware/software incompatibility issue. Not to happy right now... |

Brough my m340i in today for some warranty work and asked about the overheating issue. Was given this SIB bulletin as their answer. Basically we need to center the phone and minimize use when wirelessly charging. Seems like a complete waste of equipment if you can't fully utilize the phone while it's wirelessly charging. Going to start using the USB-C charging port in the center console.
Has anyone noticed improved connectivity, fewer crashes and less overheating when using the USB-C charger instead of the wireless charger? I kinda want my $500 bucks back. |

'Seems legit' though... I also find my Apple Watch to be quit warm when I take it of my wireless charging cradle.
