Spec Clutch Options...

Hey,
Purely out of curiosity I emailed Spec Clutch last night to see if they had any plans for the 335i/xi....here's what I got today

Quote:
Dave,

For the next 2-3 weeks, we have the stage 1 and stage 2 clutches made for
use with the OE dual mass flywheel (for mild upgrades). After that we
should have our billet flywheel and all 7 stages of clutch upgrades
available. These kits are a complete redesign of the OE setup, utilizing
our Grand Am cup pressure plate and a choice of 7 different material
options. The OE design is just too restrictive and presents too many
potential reliability issues, so we feel this kit will be 100% reliable for
tremendous wear life (we know b/c it's already proven on the track and in
some of our other applications) and safety up to 11K rpm and up to 1000 ft
lbs tq, all with a light pedal feel.
Keep in touch over the coming weeks, as we will want a couple well built
cars to test initial fitment, which we already know will be flawless, but we
need it for ISO paperwork.

Regards,

Recently, there has been an increase in interest in aftermarket
clutch/flywheel solutions for the BMW 335i in online forums. Do you have
any plans of producing a clutch for this car? If not, what would it take
for you to produce a clutch for this car?

Thanks,

Dave
And I'm stock so this was PURE curiosity... Has anyone heard about anything from Spec yet? I didn't know of anyone making clutches for us... What does everyone think?

Thanks,
Dave

I have heard mixed things about Spec on other car forums............I still have a $300 gift certificate I never used for them that I won at an HPDE.

One example:

You can search VW Vortex and some of the Corvette forums for a few stories......

bump!

The only response I get to a potential clutch vendor is mixed feelings on the Turbo Forum?! They'll need testers in the Alabama region... Anyone?

By all means stay away from SPEC clutch's. They are garbage.. I have extensive experience with many of their units and NONE were any good.

The worst one of all.... A clutch setup rated to hold 468 RWTQ, slips at 265 rwtq. LOUSY clutch's.
