Likely it has been available all along, but was added to the configurator late. Therefore, you still could have ordered it (assuming your dealer was aware it existed and remembered to offer it to you)

I don't understand how BMW adds this track friendly option yet doesn't off a manual. I'm definitely not saying you must have a manual on the track, but it's a strange option on a car where a lot of the track rats will just get an M3 for a little more money. Very few dealers will stock this option so second hand owners (who are more likely to track the car) will not be able to get this option anyway.
