Mercedes A35 AMG

OK this guys is pants but that interior crikey. A45 is going to be a bit of a monster.

The steering wheel and seats are leaving BMW behind again. It wont be as good a drive as the current 140i but now the new platform is going FWD set up. Hmm levels the field somewhat. Also did you hear the Sat Nav voice it's basically the BMW system/voice it seems?

PS 7min 26s CHEEKY!!!

I was going to start an A35 thread as I’m going to test drive one when I get back home, I’m probably going to ditch the Audi early and was thinking of a bigger car but I actually don’t need one now the little fella doesn’t need a buggy anymore.

The Mrs is also keen on a smaller car as she likes the Golf we’re in at the moment.

To my eyes it looks like a decent alternative to the likes of a Golf R and M140i.

Yes it was odd getting into my C63s when I first got it and finding out it uses the same sat nav voice as BMWs.

Doesn't look cheap compared to a 1 series inside, just the opposite. Not 100% to my taste, but certainly not cheap.

I’ve just ordered a new a class for the mrs, picked up a cheap lease on an a180d Amg line auto. Not the engine i would choose but at 199 down and 199 per month for 11 months it was too cheap to say no!

I like the augmented reality satnav directions. I don't like the chintzy interior with those purple LEDs and silver air vents.

I have a completely unreasonably view of hatchbacks not being 'grown-up' cars for some reason. Perhaps it's because I drove hatchbacks as a kid and then moved on to coupes and saloons as I got older. Daft as there are some very capable hatchbacks out there.

Interesting car, handsome exterior, stupid spoiler, dreadful interior. It's like an episode of Cheshire housewives in there - too much money and not enough taste.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that as I think the mk1 are shocking inside, 1 series is just like the f3* so not great but good enough.

Nailed it! I've been looking for an appropriate phrase to sum up the A-class inside, might need to borrow yours ;-)

There isn't a merc in production that I could buy, the interiors alone are enough to dissuade me.

Only been in an AMG line new A class but they are very nice. In fact it was nicer than that one as less shiney cheap looking bits (even if they are not actually cheap)
Hot hatches are just bonkers these days what happened to 1.3 Astra SRs, 1.6 pug gtis as one rung below and full fat 2.0 SRIs and 1.9s as the daddy's.
Now its 300bhp as the lower rung and 400bho plus!

NB I appreciate I may be showing my age here.

I am not keen on the AMG models inside (tried a GLC 43 AMG and it was very chintzy) but I think the son in laws E class coupe is nice inside. It also rides very well and is much more refined than the 4 series he had previously.

But it wouldn't do if we all liked the same things....

The previous gen wasn't too bad. I'm irrationally irritated by the italic font on the dials, but that's personal preference, and the rest of it was OK. But the new interior, especially the one-piece mega-tablet display baffles me. It's like when you get a software engineer to design the look and feel of an app or website. You get something functional, with no effort to make it usable or elegant. And then it looks like MB have just sprayed it with neon to try to make up for the lack of imagination.

I agree, a nice light manual 220-250Hp would be great. 400Hp is unreal and from 2L mainly now also.
