Another reason not to trust AI and Park Assist

The funniest thing happened yesterday.

As I was parking in the underground parking at a designated spot and put the car in Park, it alerted me and showed an available spot on the idrive that was perpendicular to where I was.

I looked at my friend and said with a smile: "WTF, there is no perpendicular parking spots here..."

He said: "That's weird but just for sh*t and giggles, let's see what it will do."

So I put my flasher in the direction of the newly found parking spot and press the button on the console. Then it goes and look at what it did...

It parked perfectly between two posts completely perpendicular to the real parking lines and almost smashed the sides of the 2 Mazdas in doing so...

Not sure AI in our cars is really perfected just yet...

We laughed pretty hard after this and I had to take a picture of the result to share.

If I knew I would have taken a video.

In the second picture with the arrows, the red rectangle was my point of origin.

2. It's a parking AIDE not an auto-parking Jarvis.

Looks like it's working perfectly. That's how many people here in DC park.

While I in AI implies that the software will learn from an incorrect parking outcome, the reality is vastly different.
