Best Place to Buy Tyres?

Anyone had any experience buying tyres from ether COSTCO or BLACKCIRCLES.COM?

Good, Bad or Indifferent?

Need to get some new tyres for the wife’s car. M4 Thames Valley area.

Thanks in advance;

LRS

I got a set from pneus online. They were by far the cheapest for my Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas and customer service was good. I would have no qualms using them again.

I've heard good things about www.elitedirect.com but I have never used them and they are in Essex too! so prob not worth it. esp is not for the BM.

I 've used www.felthamtyre.co.uk in the past - very good.

But never costco or blackcirles. Sorry not much help!

Hi mate, not wishing to hijack thread, can you confirm the dimensions of the tyres you got? (19"?) I want to change to non rft soon but can't find the sizes, and did you go for XL? Thanks!

Blackcirles simply put you in touch with a local tyre fitter so it's not really them you should doubt it's the people they put you in touch with. They just drive the price down with fitters willing to cut their margins for business.

I know people who have used them and had no problems.

Am I right in thinking Costco fit as well as supply. Know someone who uses them and not heard anything negative.

Im not anywhere near you , but i find local independant tyre specialist the best for knowledge and price.

For example: (when i last checked , may not be accurate now)
Continental Sport Contact 3 - 255/35/19
at Bush Tyres (large national firm) - £208
at Adams Tyre Specialist (my local independant) - £160 (negotiable )

allways try the small men first is my advice, local independants are going to be far more competative and freindly than any multiple ever could be (for price and product knowledge)

The one in Leeds does and fills with nitrogen. I'm still not convinced nitrogen is any better than regular air except for the reduced moisture and oil. But that is a discussion over on another thread, not here.

If Costco are competitive on price I wouldn't hesitate to use them, they fill with nitrogen as standard but I believe they do only sell Michelin tyres though. I did have a voucher for £80 4 tyres with them but it expired in early July.

Yep, all I saw at Costco were Michelin. Didn't see any RFTs but I wasn't looking for a tyre for the BMW. I needed a 31x10.5x15 LT.

They have posters up saying they will sell any tyre sold by Michelin UK, so that should include RFTs.

I did go with XL, these have a harder side wall and so run nicely on the rft tuned e92 suspension - but ride far smoother than with run flats.

The sizes I went for were 265/30/19 on the rear and 225/35/19 on the front. The set of 4 Vredestien Ultrac Sessantas (a highly rated and capable tyre) cost me £466 delivered. I sold my run flats with 4.5K miles on them for £400. £66 pounds to swap for new and infinately more comfortable tyres was well worth it .

Costco only Michelins

They don't seem to have RFT's on the shelf when I have looked.

But they do get them pretty quick. They supply, fit (inc balance and disposal)
They do nitrogen inflation as standard.

The only thing they don't do is tracking.

You'll need to either know someone who has membership or join up yourself.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Luckily I can be more open as to where I go as the tyres are for a Volvo S40 (205/50/17/93W) and not the 335d. (I dread the day that I have to start looking for 19" RFT tyres for the 335d!)

Heard today on the radio that National Tyres and Autocare are doing a BOGOF on selected tyres or a 25% multi buy discount. May give them a call to check it out.

I agree, try to find the people who supply all the taxi's etc...

My local guy did 4 x 18 inch Bridgestone RFT's for just over £600

He also repaired my punctured RTF for £5

I found Headley Tyres, just outside Newbury, marginally cheaper than Micheldever - who get the guys from the car mags travelling down from London to use them.
