Any advice before I pull the trigger

I've had a 2007 335i E90 for over 10 years and 100 miles. I have quite a few mods and every now and then run e85 for even more fun.

Well, its about that time to look something new. I was thinking of looking at the 2016 340i with msport, track, driver assistance and tech package. I will be staying at or below $34k and no higher than 55k miles.

Any advice or tips you would give when I'm out looking? Any comment on how the 2 drive??

Thanks

I have the same car you're looking for. It's a beast. If you find the one you want, don't look back. I've had the car for 2 years and it's been flawless.
I also have the N54 in my Z4 and while both the N54 and B58 are really good engines, the B58 is smoother, smooth as silk. Other benefits include better heat management on warm up and cool down. On the downside, the VANOS is at the back of the engine, so engine out when if needs service.
The 340 has the auto rev match feature and was annoying. It can't be turned off like pre LCI models. I coded it out with Bimmercode. Also, the CDV is INSIDE the clutch slave cylinder. I removed it, but it wasn't anywhere near as easy as when it was in line with the clutch line. Tranny shifts really nicely now.
Bottom line - you won't be sorry.

I think you should be able to get it for below 32k. Especially if you're not getting cpo. For a 2016 you should be looking in the range of 25k-40k miles. Anything more should a lot cheaper than the market values of similarly equipped 340s

I just bought a CPO 2016 f34 328 xdrive with m sport, cold weather, tech package (hud, nav pro), comfort access for $28k OTD. Had 33k miles from NJ. Now I know the 335/340 models are about 2-3k more in price usually. Just to give you an idea. Good luck.

You will surely enjoy B58 engine. Smooth as silk is a great description in the earlier post.

I like the spec's you are looking for, pretty much what I ordered. The B58 is the real deal and with all the tune's being released as well as the new Supra I think now is a good time to jump on the platform.

Just me: I'd go for a 2017 because of the improved crash structure -- if you value your legs.

If you've never driven an F30, you will be surprised by the steering and the suspension tuning. The tracking handling package I think comes standard with adaptive dampers that are kind of a compromise in all conditions. IMO, getting a car with passive dampers and adding on the M Performance suspension is better if you like a sportier ride.

The steering in all F30s is kinda dead compared to the E90. You don't get any feedback from the road at all. BMW just tried making the steering heavier and heavier because most drivers just wanted a heavier steering feel and didn't care about feedback. When you test drive the car, make sure to drive it kinda hard. You won't notice these issues unless you drive some familiar roads or push it a little bit.

Other than those two things, though, the car is pretty nice. The chassis is rigid and is still fun to drive. The B58 is also an amazing engine. With the MPPSK, it gets a noticeable bump in power and a pretty nice exhaust, too. Overall, you'll probably be happy. However, since you've already drive your car this long, you might want to wait for another year or two. You could either get a used G20, or wait for the larger price drops on the F30s that will happen once more and more G20s hit the road. The G20 made upgrades to the steering and suspension tuning and would be worthy of waiting as long as you don't need a manual transmission.
