Too soon for Summer tires?
I'm in NJ and was wondering when do you put your Summer tires on?
I usually wait until mid April but was thinking of doing it sooner to save the tread on the snows |

Once temps start to average 50+ you should be GTG.

In addition to what FCobra94 said, you have to keep in mind that there is still salt on the roads and dirt/stones that could damage your summer wheels.
I personally wait until all that gets washed away by rain and temps are between 45-50F. |

I've got my 18" spring wheels with MPSS on now, it's pothole season so these cover the gap between my 17" winter wheels and my 19" summer wheels.

Mine are probably going on next weekend (first weekend in April), in Chicago suburbs. Put my wife's on this past Monday, but her "summer" tires are the stock all-seasons, so there's no real risk there should we have a surprise freeze/snow. Will replace those with real summers once they've worn out.

Depends on where you live. Here in NY, I put them on in March and regret it every time lol. It hit 50f today but when I woke up there was frost on the ground. I should really wait until late April. 200tw or lower and you really want to wait until it's 60f+ outside and the potholes are repaired. In NY, they will not cover pothole damage until after April 28th and there are tons of them to worry about lol. There is a massive different between the grip a 200TW Hankook RS3/4 generates at 6xF-7xF and 4xF.

I’ll wait till the low temps are consistently above 50. Right now it still dips to hi 30s to low 40s at night

Yeah I don't put 200tw's on until it stops dropping below 40 at night. Good thing I don't have the set of TA16s to mount them onto yet (or any track wheels rn). MPSS or other street tire I wouldn't sweat it at this point of the year

Mid-April is always a safe bet. Temps become consistently warm, rains have washed away the salt, road repairs have begun.
This year in Toronto, we've had Spring temps for the last two weeks and people brought out all their summer toys and swapped their summer tires on. Just two nights ago we got hit with 3-4 inches of snow lol. People get waaaaay too anxious this time of year. Not to mention it helps to take it easy until mid/late-April. Up here, the traffic cops go nuts all March and April because they know people are going to be out enjoying their cars more now that its warmed up. Front plate blitzes, license plate frame tickets, window tint tickets, exhaust tickets, etc, etc. As much as I love the idea of Spring, the reality of it as a car guy is quite different.

I'm in Pittsburgh, just put my summers on last weekend and it's always such a good day to go from Blizzaks to summer tires. I forget how well these tires grip!
