I have just moved from a 2018 Audi Q7 to a 2019 BMW X7.

While I thought it would be obvious, I can't seem to recall a feature that my Audi had but can't find in BMW.......which I am going to do my best to explain below;

On my Audi....While on a Highway, you set the Distance paced cruise at 65 MPH. The car adapts it. The dashboard shows 65 MPH (road sign recognition). The highway speed limit changes to 70 MPH, Audi would automatically increase the speed and set the cruise now to 70 MPH.

I think this feature is called Sign Based Adaptation.

I could not find that in my X7! I tried all combinations and modes that use cruising but could not get it to work like Audi.

Some people do not like this feature but I personally liked it especially when you suddenly enter into a school zone where the speed limit is 20MPH and it would automatically reduce your speed to 20MPH (and then increase it again as soon as you are out of the school zone).

I was very certain that BMW would have that feature since it recognizes road signs just like other cars that have Driving Assistant packages.

It's a matter of moving you thumb on the wheel and pressing a button once or twice to go faster or slower. Not following the school zone 20 mph commment. Do you use cruise control in stop and go "city" driving?

Yep that's it. Its just a putting a check in the software of the UI of the car. I hope it's introduced sooner by bmw.

I know but in one of the recent highway trips I saw a cop stopping a car which didn't follow the speed limit when entering into a work zone where there was a significant low speed limit assigned.

I would say that it's better to use cruise in "city" traffic than not to and take advantage of road signs recognition and speed limit controls that I love to see them appear on the HUD. Even in city cruise mode and you need a push you can always hit the gas pedal for some quickness but for the rest, it's very convenient provided you keep an eye on the road and ready for stop signs and lights and enjoy the stress free traffic jam situation taken care by your car.

So the Audi wouldve recognized a construction zone speed limit sign?
I guess the way I use cruise control is different. It's only on 79-85 mph regardless of speed limit, for longer highway trips. Never though to use it in "city"

My personal vote is that feature will never proliferate to BMW. Why would you allow the vehicle to decide for a driver to go faster? Terrible idea. I personally don't see that proliferating across car companies ever. Not until we are living like the Jetsons. Full on autonomous.

I do like the functionality of automatically reducing speed, only. Not the increase functionality.

Cruising in the city is absurd to me, with all due respect.

I believe BMW already has this feature. When the G12 was first introduced in '15, I remember watching a video where they touted the ability to set the cruise at a set speed (even over the posted limit) and it would adjust the speed depending on the speed limit signs.

Whether it's offered or will be offered in the US is another question.

The x7 is using the mobileye eye q4 processor. If the active driving assistant professional is ordered it has a trifocal front camera. The Audi Q7 is still on the mobileye eye q3 processor. Eye q4 is 10x more powerful than the eye q3. In the 2021, bmw will jane eye q5. I expect this to go into x7 Lci with start of production In 8/22.

I agree. I mean how can BMW miss it. I hope that they tweak the software again and put it back on. Most 2020 model cars are planning to add it.

Moreover, its good to have a feature. If someone does not prefer it or like it, it's possible to turn the feature off in the software setup than not having it.
