E91 318i vs 320i Engine Spec

I drive a 2007 E91 318i and am finding myself wishing I'd picked something with a bigger engine. I took a 320i out while mine was in for a service and it felt quicker and more responsive.

I've searched high and low for the technical differences between the two engines, but cant figure it out. Are there any technical people out there who might shine a light for me?

I'm thinking I may have a superchip installed, but even with this, the power is less than the 320i. Is it worth it? Anybody had it done?

Thanks,
Chris

I thought it may be a software difference, but I would have presumed that if that were the case then the chip would make a considerable difference and not just 10hp. Do the 318 and the 320 have the same induction and exhaust setup? Are the injectors they use the same?

Thanks,
Chris

Here are the comparisons between 318i and 320i

318i 320i

Engine (cc/type) 1995/4 1995/4

Max power (bhp/rpm) 141/5750 168/5750

Max torque (lb ft/rpm) 133/3250 148/3600

0-60 mph (secs) 9.5 8.4

Max speed (mph) 130 140

But not sure on exact details.

Thanks for that madman.

I don't suppose it could be something as simple as the induction (injectors / air) or exhaust thats different? If its a software difference, surely there would be aftermarket kits/chips available to bring the 1.8 in line with the 2.0.

Although I'm happy with the car I think next change, I'll opt for the bigger engine and have done with it.
