Check engine light came on 2 days ago. Got this code. No messages or notifications. It went away by itself today.

It looked to be a active shutter problem. Not sure if I should be alerted.

If the car is still in warranty I would visit a dealer to read the car.

Check engine light this morning code scanned as P05AF (google search = bottom radiator blind does not move freely).

Engine temp and all systems otherwise fine. Light went out after code was pulled by O'Reilly's Auto Parts guy and car restart.

Is there a way to manually open the shutters if temp rises? Going on a road trip before I can bring car to dealer.

I saw quite a few others had asked the same question, but no solution yet on how to open the slates manually.

Other owners who got this error code consistently had their car fixed, but had a very long wait time for parts. I would suggest you keep an eye out of this is a one time event (electronic gremlins) or something that progressively gets worse. If you prefer, you can also try to get a loaner from dealer for your long trip while they keep your car in shop.

Made an appointment at my dealer to diagnose the issue. He said it was ok to drive in the meantime.

My dealer ordered it from DE, took almost 2 weeks (mostly shipping) to have it replaced.

Dealer diagnosed that shutter mechanism needs to be replaced.

Parts are back ordered and could be a month or more.

Safe to drive in the meantime except if check engine light comes on again how do I know it’s not something else wrong?

the CEL on and off.
dealer replaced upper rad blind.
here is the parts replaced:
1 pcs x 51-13-7-497-227 AIr FLAPS, upper
10 pcs x 07-14-7-293-278 expanding rivet, BL

Parts arrived and dealer did upper and lower replacement two days ago.

We'll see if check engine light stays off now

Good to hear that the repair was finally done, but the 7 weeks wait time did not indicate backlogs have gotten better.

I bought my 540i used, not CPO. Will this active shutter warranty apply to me still? I am getting code P05AF. Shutters will open and close if I disconnect battery and reconnect. Also opened when I put on MAX A/C. Not sure what is not working. Only thing that has happened recently is I went through a 6 inch rain puddle that I didnt see right away and the water came over the hood. Would that make the sensors malfunction?
