Gap insurance advice (U.K.)

Who are you guys using for GAP insurance. Currently with ALA but they only do replacement cover for 3 years and require 4 years cover. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hmmm I always thought it was a scam, but I guess if you're thinking you may write your car off since you drive like a loon (just kidding), Admiral looks pretty cool

2years 197
3 years 257
4years 349

Insurance is always a risk eh?

Martin Lewis says insurance should cover you new for old in first year anyhow, some insurers 2. Maybe shoot for one of those?

Martin Lewis’ website has a 25% discount code for ALA.

I think Admiral only offers return to invoice cover.

Not a case of writing the car off but what if it gets nicked, I would have quite a shortfall after insurance payout. Have looked at a few companies and all are much the same price and cover, was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

Buy it. Having had to claim due theft I would not go without again.

Insurance payout was £26k on a 6 month old car, £27k was outstanding on finance at this point. Invoice price was £35k. Best £400 i spent on that car

I tried to get 4 year replacement insurance last week, not something ala currently offer. Also be aware that the most they would cover is 50k replacement.

I ended up having to get 4 year return to invoice as they will cover vehicles over 50k.

I was told they don’t do replacement cover for 4 years at the moment as the underwriter advised due to Brexit they could not be certain of the impact it will have on the value of cars - not sure how true this is.

All i do know is I got 4 year replacement cover 3 years ago for less than I’m paying for 4 year return to invoice!

I did shop around too and ala were the best deal I could get!

Most F30post members use gapinsurance.co.uk , there's a discount code for forum members, GAPInsurance can let you know what it is.

Another recommendation for this company.

When getting quote just say "F30 forum" and you get extra 10%.

Good insurance should you ever need it.

Just ran a quote for Gapinsurace, came out at £390 before any discount.
That will do nicely. All I need now is the bloody 🚗.

This isn't something I've considered before, thinking the it would essentially just double my insurance costs. But, it's cheaper than I imagined, and the benefit (though hopefully never needing it) is a weight off my mind.

I have nothing to add, but do want to thank you all for discussing it. It's something to attend to when my M40i arrives next month

I used admiral. I thought given the most stolen car in the U.K. is the X5, our machines are probably a high target too! Cost me £399 for 4 years. No brainier if you ask me

Used ALA for the last few years , even when changing cars over just topped the policy up and carried on .

When I bought my policy a month or so ago , they where changing underwriters and couldn’t offer me VEHICLE REPLACEMENT , but said they would call when they where available and I could change over .

I just took out BACK TO INVOICE as it was cheaper than what dealership where charging
Hoping I’ll net need it

Being out the country is not so easy to shop around so just went with BMW. Not the cheapest, but just convenient.

I know a few friends that have had Gap and made a claim. Very grateful they had it. I also have two work colleagues that have had new cars stolen without it. £4k to £7k shortfall in both cases to settle the finance.

I went with GapInsurance last week. Hopefully will never use it, but very helpful. One thing that did come up is that they were saying it's a lot more difficult to get after you've had the car for a year, so even if you insurance covers you for the first year, if you don't take out GAP now, could be stuffed later

They have a page on Babybmwnet which explains a lot of unanswered queries. Will definitely be using them.Just trying to finalise a delivery date.

It's so little difference between 3 years deferred a year, and 4 years I just took out the 4 years cover without bothering to check if my insurance company does replacement in first year.
