Wastegate rattle... Official Fix? (( N55 )) e92

Anyone know the latest word on an official N55 wastegate rattle fix?

I contacted Ian at Turbo Labs of America (TLOA) and he said that he doesn’t have the rebuild parts for it yet (only the N54)... suggesting they are working on it?

Does the adjustment method work on the N55 like it does on the N54?

How is everyone dealing with this?

Is the only method to bite the bullet and replace it..? If so, do I have to replace the entire N55 turbo or can I just replace the actuator?

My advice: Please make sure you actually have a waste gate problem before you take any further steps. I've seen zero reports of waste gate rattle from N55's on the board. That doesn't mean it can't happen, but it does seem very rare. Do you have a 2011 335is with the N54 and not the N55?

There is no N55 wastegate rattle issue... You sure it is not the exhaust flap?

Have you confirmed it is actually coming from the front of the car? Sounds like exhaust flap or heat shield rattle to me.

Got home and revved it in park and sounded pretty identical to this. I had been chasing a rattle for probably a year now and always suspected it was the wastegate/flapper or something. Today the car built 4 psi out of the 14 target when I floored it. Doubt it could be any of the FMIC connections.

Now just wondering if I have to replace whole turbo or if there is just a wastegate part.

Hi guys, 2011 335i E93, N55, 120,000 kms. This year I'm getting a rattle, but its nothing like the video above. Mine occurs when getting on the throttle, then letting go quickly. It is definitely a rattle and only when letting off the gas. Odd thing.... it seems to be worse when going uphill and then letting off the gas. First I thought it was a turbo issue, but my mechanic says its the wastegate, definitely coming from the front of the car, right side (NA). I see that this is rare on the N55, but it seems I have it. Maybe this is a good excuse to the get JB4 Is there an actual fix for it? Mechanic says not to worry, it can rattle like that for years/thousands of miles. Noticed that ESC Tuning has an N54 wastegate rattle fix kit, but nothing for the N55.

Why not plug the exhaust flap actuator to rule that out?

I'll do that today, but it sure sounds like its coming from the front of the car, not the back.

Sound is definitely coming from the front. Going for an oil change in the morning, we'll have a look and see what we can find out. A JB4 wouldn't be the end of the world

Well bad news on my end.... Went for the oil change, as the oil was draining, we could see the metal flakes in the oil, nice and sparkly. Then we checked the filter, lots of copper flakes in there as well, so we know its now a spun bearing problem, engine is knocking more and more. Working with BMW on an engine replacement. Out of warranty, but I really hope they do something for me. Even though its a 2011, its a convertible, so its never driven in the winter, the car is in in great shape. I would really like a new motor, then I can drive another 5 years trouble free. Anyone else on here get a new engine out of warranty? I know I'll have to pay something, but I don't want to drop 10k-15K on a 10 year old car.

Now I'm worried about the 535 with the same engine, 2014 MY, so its supposed to be better, but not feeling confident at the moment.

SilverSlug did you ever diagnose this. I had the exact same sound on startup and now I am getting limp mode and no boost under medium accelleration at highway speeds. Is this a wastegate actuator issue?
