Front License Plate?
For those that ordered, did the dealer put the front license plate frame prior to picking up the vehicle?
I ask because I do not want them to do that or have a front license plate. |

I live in a state that requires it, but my sales guy at dealer told me many buyers opted not to do it to save the bumper from getting a couple of holes. I told him I want to get this done on mine, not wanting to give any excuses for the cop to stop me for no other reasons.

They asked me if I wanted it installed - it's required in Texas - I said No and they were fine with that

If you live in a state that requires it, check out http://www.usmillworks.com/ - opt for a Lightened + Quick Release kit. It'll screw into the tow hook hole under the small cover on the bumper. Here's what it looks like on mine.

California is starting to really crack down on the front license plate requirement. My dealer informed me that they are no longer honoring requests to not install the front plate and my 2019 M240i had it installed when I picked it up last month. Although we were able to get our 2018 X3 M40i with a clean front bumper last year, we decided to have the plate installed when we picked up our M240i, since the fines can be quite high and I didn't want to take any further risks.

I live in a state that requires a front plate and mine was delivered without the mount/holes. I went back to the dealer the next day and had them drill it on. I just wanted peace of mind and it was not worth it to me risking getting pulled over/a ticket. I don't even notice it anymore. The us mill works solution seems to be a good option though looking slightly awkward. It's all subjective...whatever makes you happy (or least unhappy)

For anyone thinking of not running a front plate & other "illegal" things like tints. The ONLY time I every got other types of tickets (tint, expired inspection, etc) was when they pulled me over for no front plate. ESPECIALLY near bridges and tunnels in Boston & NYC. Put the front plate on 18 months ago and have yet to get a ticket let alone pulled over. Just an easy way to single someone out.

I'm in CA also and had to sign an acknowledgement that the front plate is required. They did not install the bracket and the plates were mailed to my house. No more dealer involvement.

If you don't want them to mount the front plate bracket, be sure to tell your dealer BEFORE they prep your car for delivery. Otherwise, the service dept. will probably mount the bracket if you live in a state where it's required.
I'm in MD where a front plate is required. I have been running with no front plate for over 4 months now, no tickets so far (fingers crossed). Last edited by TX3M; 02-28-2019 at 10:31 AM.. |

Yeah I've got all of the assistance packages. I'll take some closer pictures in a bit to show you where exactly I mounted it on the bracket to avoid interfering with the sensors.

My front plate bracket was just put in the net in the cargo area. I never run a front plate on any of my vehicles and have never had an issue. I don’t understand why they don’t make a plate mount that clips into the grill somewhere. On my Audi you don’t drill anything. You just clip it into the grill and it can be easily removed.

Update:
I reached out to my dealership and they said it will be no problem. He'd let the service team know to not install front license plate/bracket. |

Both times in cali. 2 different Dealers told me they do not install the front plate on M line cars. Which is fine with me. I hated the plate on my 135i. They did make me sign something which said its required i opted to not have it, and was given the bracket.
Police dont seem to care, but ticket/meter maids love to give you one if they can.

No front plate on mine here in CT. Actually have never had a front plate on my 2004 325xi (E46), and not once was I stopped for not having a plate. As far I know, it is a state requirement.

When I picked up my X3, the front plate bracket was not installed and I found it in the cargo compartment. My dealer left it off without having to ask.

Custom ordered in CA, picked up M40i start of Jan. Front plate bracket was left in cargo area. We were one of the dealer's first customers in 2019 where they had to print out temporary CA plates, which the dealer is now required to install before customer takes delivery (no more driving for 6 weeks without plates in CA from 2019). He put the front temporary plate behind the windshield, he wasn't worried about installing it properly on the front of the car. He said to just come back when/if we wanted the front plate bracket screwed in.
When we got the real plates in the mail we took the car to the dealer (actually had a flat tire so had to go anyway) and asked them to mount the front plate. I'd much prefer to not have a front plate, but I also never want to deal with cops or having to sort out fixit tickets, so I try to ignore it. I'm thinking of ordering one of the custom CA black plates — should look nicer on Black Sapphire |
