So today on the way home the navigation was randomly going blank (black). If it hit the idrive wheel it would come back on, but then go blank again after about a minute. I had it on split screen and the split screen side (smaller side) would stay on. After I stopped for gas and restarted it didn't do it anymore. Anyone else ever experience this?

Not quite as you've described but did have a similar issue with my idrive on a 2016 235i. Software update fixed it

I've recently experienced brief 'black out' too, I attribute that to Nav update or something in that nature, since the screen would go back to normal after a brief moment.

Not that - but about 5 times in past month I have been cruising along and TOUCHED NOTHING all of a sudden CarPlay pops up on screen. I mean like a black left hand side CarPlay screen and the right hand side with the logo.

Pressing another button resolves. Too much software, not enough testing ;-)

(I know this because my brother works as project manager for Jaguar group in their MMI, they are less than thorough apparently, can't imagine the same is not true for others)

Any chance the CarPlay popped up because there was email, text, or notification from an App? I got those too but the CarPlay screen would revert back to whatever I had going on in less than 10 seconds...

Nope - I get those also, I know exactly what they look like - the notification banner at the top pops up when a message received.

It doesn't happen that often (the blank CarPlay screen) so next time it does I'll take a photo. Perhaps is related to the OP thread, perhaps not. Either way I'll mention on next service with evidence. Not entirely sure it will do me any good mind :-)

I get CarPlay quirks as well. When are car companies just gonna leave the technology to the technology companies, contract it out to Samsung, google, or Apple or something and just stick to building cars? They aren't going to out tech the tech companies.
