Special order experience?

For those that special (custom) ordered the M40i, how was your overall experience?

I placed my order on Feb.17th, 2019 and the next step for it as of now is to enter the "exterior body assembly". My dealer advised it will take 1-2 months to arrive, which I wasn't surprised with.

Any particular part in the production/order of the vehicle that took the longest, surprised you, etc.?

FYI, first time ordering a car, so no idea what to really expect.

Any input is great!

I ordered my X3 on January 5, 2019 and I didn't take delivery until February 18th. Based on my vehicle order, it took about 6 weeks before it showed up at my SoCal dealer. I would expect around the same time frame for you since you are also located in CA.

The "At Port" stage was the longest step for my car as it was stuck in that phase for almost 2 weeks. This was based on the status provided by the BMW website.

You guys are so lucky. I ordered my M40i at the end of May and collected at the end of October.
We simply don't get as many build slots as you guys, mine was built mid-September!

Adding to the time idling at ports, Your car also took a very slow boat ride to get to your country too.

..yet worse, my South African built X3 was ordered in end of May too, and arrived beginning of December.
Unnecessary time spent both before start of production, at the boat ride(s) (~6 weeks), and at port in Sweden (5-6 weeks) due to more or less chaos there due to changing tax rules.

If you want a really special experience alongside your special order, do a performance center delivery.
