Not a big fan of cops...need help!
So I was driving around Los Angeles last week and all of a sudden a cop pulls me over...I wasn't speeding so I didn't know what he pulled me over for. To my dismay he was pulling me over for two reasons:
1. Tints "too dark" --keep in mind my tints are around 30% and in California it's illegal to have ANY kind of tint on the front (even though tints are very common, obviously) 2. No front license plate -- very common not to have it in LA either! These two not-even-mods are so common to have in Santa Monica/ Los Angeles area and now I'm stuck with these lame fix-it tickets. Clearly don't want to do any of these fix-its but how can I get around it? Please help, thanks!! |

Well, I've seen a new product for a front license plate that mounts on the tow-hook. That'd be good if you don't want to drill holes in your car.
As for the tickets, your probably stuck with the no front plate one. The illegal tint one could be revoked if your tint is in fact legal - it may not be worth the time and capital to get the ticket removed though. |

You get around it by putting your front plate back on and fixing your tint. Take it from a guy whos been pulled over countless times for the 2 same citations.
You either suck it up and pay the hefty fine and not fix it, or pay the $10 or whatever it is nowadays and just put the plate on and get lighter tint or remove it completely. |

You know that having tint on the front windows and not having a license plate up front is illegal, but you're confused as to why you received a citation? As for taking care of your two issues..fix them and pay the small fine. It'll be more of a hassle trying to find ways to get around them, because there really isn't. Take the tint off yourself and stick your plate on. Easy... GL.

+1 no way around it. You can pay the fine tho and not fix it, but you are still prone to getting tickets for it.
For your front plate i suggest you use duct tape and stick it on well enough for the court to check it and the tints, I have a lifetime warranty. I just scratch it up with a coin go to the tint shop ask them to re-do it. Once they take it off I tell them i need the car and I will be back tomorrow. And the rest you can put together. I've done this twice so I don't know if it'll work for sure.

I've got a plate bracket that mounts under the bumper - you do have to drill, but at least it is out of sight and keeps the front fascia intact.

there's no way around it other than paying the hefty fine and putting up with getting pulled over
You're doing things that are against the vehicle code, it makes sense you got cited right? Also, keep in mind that no front plate and tints attract attention from LEOs so you are more likely to get cited for other stuff too. |

Pay the fine for the front and continue to look good without a front plate. There is a price to pay for looking good. The tint, I don't know...
AND also I HATE COPS!

I double taped my front plates. I put six of them and it stayed on. Did that on the GTI and I did that on my 328i. It does wonders. That is the best and cheapest!

Ask someone if they have a cop friend and just have it signed off.
or look for a cop who is just starting lunch at the mall and ask him to sign off your ticket. If he is too lazy to do a visual check then you are free, if he does check just say you got it re-tinted to CA legal specs. GL |

Cops are giving these retarded tickets because no one is speeding these days. Speeding tickets have gone down about 40% YOY, because of gas prices.
Kinda funny, but theyll try to ping you for some little crap |

thanks everyone for their input. Does anyone know what exactly goes down when a cop signs it off? Is it pretty casual (not checking vin #, etc)? Just because one of my close friends has the same model/color combo and already has the plates on front w/o tint. I know it's shady....

Not exactly correct, CA allows 70% tint on the front side windows..
Which is pretty much no tint.. To the OP: a) Find a cop friend to sign off on the ticket b) Get your eye doctor to write up something that says that you are blinded by lights. I can get that since I have astegmatism and night driving really bothers me |
