Squeaky Brakes

Has anybody had any issues with squeaky brakes? Maybe made worse by cold weather? I have a terrible squeal that makes stopping borderline embarrassing.

Anybody have the same issue or have a suggestion for a fix?

They seem to squeak only at slow speeds... I read I need to bed them in, I thought I did, but maybe it wasn't enough??

What brake pads are you using?

brake squeak

Assuming low mileage (< a few thousand) and OE pads, I would recommend bedding.
80mph to 20mph braking hard, but not hard enough to activate ABS. Do not come to a stop. Repeat 4 times. Then drive for at least 5 mins to cool brakes.

Mine squeaks from time to time. I have the standard US BBK. I was told that there isn't much space in there so sometimes a pebble or something can get lodged in there causing the squeaking.

My dad's OG M2 squeaks a lot more than my F80 does...it's much more noticeable, and he has the stock pads. Really surprised me.

I would have thought the kits would react basically the same, but doesn't seem to be the case.

My US big brakes squeak slightly when it’s cold out for the first few minutes of driving. Then they seem to quiet down.

Just got my M2C 2-3 weeks ago and also squeal like crazy in the Chicago weather. I'll bed them on the highway if they still squeak in the spring.

Bed-in your brakes and it will go a long way towards getting rid of squeaks! The squeak is typically the pads rubbing on bare iron. When you bed them in, you lay down a layer of pad material on the disc. The pad material on the disc rubs the pads themselves...two like materials= very little noise vs. two differing materials. Here's a video we put together on the topic. Check out our other videos for lots of other insights on brakes:

Bedding the pads is wicked important. Most brake noise is noticed coming to a stop. If you don't drive your car everyday and/or don't garage it, there also will be some rust that normally occurs on the rotors as well. (they are iron)

I bed my pads using my left foot. drive the car up to 55-65. apply your left foot to the brake firmly, then add more gas pedal to compensate for the increased drag. Drive the car for 10 seconds, then let cool for 60 seconds then repeat 2 more times. Works like a charm.
Semi metallic pads will make some noise from time no matter what you do. They are German brakes!
