HELP: Right Rear Break Light Malfunctioned?

hmm... The right rear break light message came on yesterday after my carwash. So I checked the rear lights and not sure if everything is fine... I am not sure if the very right (circled in black) part the the tail light is supposed to light up when hitting the break? Both my left and right break lights look the same although the computer only tells me the right one is not working. Anyone experienced this? If nothing is wrong... how can I reset the error msg?

Go to dealership

Yeah take it to the dealership.

Mine gave me the same error couple month back (once for brake light and once for backup light) I took it to the dealership, they ended up replacing the socket. I think the SA told me there was a bulleting recall for it.

Pop the cover off in the trunk, pull out the assembly, pull out all bulbs and reinsert. I have had this occur twice and reseating the bulbs took care of it.

I would rather do that in about two minutes than to schedule an appointment only to have it reoccur when I leave the dealer.

omg my 2008 E92 did the same thing after a car wash too! i started a thread about it about a week ago and some people have the same issue also.

my light goes on and off so it was hard for me to set a time to go to the dealer to have it checked out...but if yours stays out make an appointment with your dealer and get it replaced asap.

For once I will actually provide one of the least smartass responses to a thread.

You DO need to go to the dealer. The reason is it's a "recall" (quoted because it's not TECHNICALLY a recall) for the rear bulb assemblies. I tried fixing it myself and when I wiggled the bulb it fixed the error (the same top bulb that you circled) but, it came back a week later. Just take it there and they'll fix it right.

Open it up and reinstall it, it might be a little loose. Had the same experience once. Becareful and wear rubber gloves so you don't "infect" the bulb.

This sounds like a coupe issue. You have a sedan.

Aren't these bulbs regular incandescents? Those you can touch--not that you should go out of your way to do so. The ones you need to be careful with are halogens or xenon bulbs.

The lights were functioning correctly. I had a few people check for me before I made the appointment with the dealership

Did you pop the assembly out from inside the trunk? They sometimes appear to be all lit fromt he outside but one bulb may not be. It takes less than 30 seconds to have the assembly out.
