2018 M240 recall campaign - software update?
Anyone else get notification about a "Factory Recall Campaign - program control units"?
Apparently it's a software update and could take 4 - 5 hrs. Just curious as to what it's all about. My 2018 M240xi ragtop is going in on Thursday.

I wish I could find out the contents of that recall as well. My dealer tricked me into it and didn't inform me so I thought I was sitting for three and a half hours waiting for a tire swap. Mine is a 2019 M250i XDrive coupe and it got the software package whatever it is.

I believe mine got this at the dealership before I took delivery.
There's a thread over here https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1573337 detailing some thoughts/conspiracy theories, some related to exhaust burbles. |

I believe it is related to the Instrument cluster occasionally blanking out. The solution is a software update and in some cases a new cluster.

That's not what I had done to mine. It wasn't part of a recall campaign, just a software update for my 19 M240i. BMW service bulletin B120119 I think. I've never been able to find anything out about that SB though. It doesn't show up on any searches.

Did you check the "Recalls and Product Upgrade Notices" for your vehicle on your "My BMW" account?

The software update should only be needed on cars delivered before/around the first week in January 2018. That's when I took delivery of mine, and BMW had already discovered the glitch and was doing the software update at the port prior to deliveries. Any standing inventory would've been updated at the dealer.

Just thought that I would go look at the NHTSA website since all recalls are reported through here.
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/BMW/M240I#recalls Last recall for our car was a crankshaft sensor that needed replacing that could cause stalls. |

Just had this done at my dealership while they adjusted my exhaust (a 1hr job), and six hours later my car was finished. The update supposedly included a fix to the instrument cluster and a fix to the ECU. I was worried the ECU update was emissions related and would eliminate the exhaust burbles, as I had read in other posts. Turns out it was fixing an issue that could potentially cause the engine to stall at low RPMs.
Good news is they installed my WiFi/CarPlay antenna at the same time for free... so about to code that in 😁
