Tinted Windows

Do the windows come tinted or are they completely clear? I'm taking delivery of my LBB M2C on Monday and never inquired about window tinting.

Go Ceramic

I too went the ceramic tint route. Although BMW uses glass that isn't completely clear (meaning it's colored glass), it has no tinting benefits. No UV protection whatsoever. And certainly doesn't look as good.

I guess I could research this on my own but what is the benefit of a ceramic tint?

I chose it for its UV blocking ability. Plus I have 50% on the windshield. Really helps to protect the interior from sun damage.

Interesting... Everything I've read shows that the BMW windshield blocks around 96% UV-A and the side windows around 55% UV-A. These tests were done in the 2013/14 time frame according to several news articles easily found on Google. Sure, that isn't enough on the side windows, but it's far better than zero.

I believe most cars today come with a UV blocking film in the glass. I think merc has a slight green or blue hue to theirs and BMW is mostly clear. BMW and Mercedes were criticized for having lower (sub 60%) protection on the side windows though.

I Hate tinted windows with a passion. Sunglasses and a garage work well enough but I am a bit disappointed to find there is not a BMW factory windshield sun blocker, at least one that I could find...

UV isn't a good Spec to go by. What's important to look at when searching for tint is Total Solar Energy Rejection. Most higher end films have around 60% as a minimum TSER value. Basic dye films will do almost nothing. The difference is almost night and day in the amount of heat you feel through the window on a sunny day

Notice that the retrofit exterior section in RealOem includes the sunshade for the 1 series and not for the F87 LCI. This tells me it either doesn't exist OR if it does the part number isn't listed in RealOem yet.

The part is showing up as fitting a 2016 m235i. It should fit the M2 without any issues.

EDIT: I looked up the part number for the m2 windshield (51317273823) , it's the exact same as many of the 1 series and 2 series models:

But that's cross referencing an F20, not an E88 which the part number for the shade shows. That doesn't mean it will fit BUT it doesn't mean it won't either.

If the E88 shield fits in the F20 (Surely someone in those forums knows) then you may be on to something. It's been driving me crazy and I can't really test fit anything as they are usually special order.

Sorry for the off topic OP

Yeah, I'm just going by what it says when I put in a 2016 m235i. If you put in something bigger, it specifically says it doesn't fit.

OP, windows are clear. Choose tints based on:
looks - darkness, color, reflectivity
heat rejection - ceramics vs non-ceramics
cost - ceramics being pricier

UVA/UVB rejection is practically always >99% regardless of brand.

82110443851 fits the F87 M2 Comp. I went through the same non-conclusive part searching and tried it anyways. It's a pain to put up quickly because it's rigid. Also because the windshield is sloped close to the dash with a rear view mirror and infotainment display getting in the way.

Wow thank you! Does it have any gaps on the edges or pretty good coverage?

I stand corrected. Maybe I asked my sales person the wrong question or was specific enough about "protection" from the glass. You really can't rely on those guys for much. I knew more about the cars I was buying on my last several buys.
