Replacing the 2 turbos for a fume leak at wastegate?

My 2010 335d is at the dealer for a check engine light and annoying exhaust fumes under the hood. The CEL is from a vacuum hose leak. This was an easy fix.

I can smell the diesel fumes when the car is stopped at a traffic light. This is annoying. SA told me: they pressurized the exhaust system and found an exhaust leak at the wastegate actuator. Also, there are some soot around the actuator and there are an oil leak at the turbo. The repair consist at replacing both turbo for $5400.

Is that right, to fix the wastegate, you have to replace the turbo?

The car has 115K miles, engine does not consume oil. Car still look great and runs fine. Is it worth repairing?

Thanks. I decided not to do the turbo repairs.
I will keep driving it and see what is next.

have you looked at the exhaust pressure sensor? that is a more common under hood exhaust leak.
i don't think i buy the actuator leak... the actuators are controlled by vacuum outside of the exhaust which moves a rod that is inside the turbo housing that opens a valve inside the exhaust...

look at this

I'm with stoner. I think more investigation is needed until one settles on turbo replacement. I don't have much knowledge about the turbo system and any other likely culprits, but just wanted to chime in to say that it's not unheard of for shops to recommend turbo replacement when the fix is actually much more simple. I don't think it's necessarily a nefarious money-grab, but could be due to lack of experience with the engine and lack of confidence in diagnosis. There are probably techs out there when confronted with a problematic BMW diesel use a decision tree that looks something like this:

Low boost: replace turbos
Exhaust leak: replace turbos
Oil in intake tract: replace turbos
Vehicle won't shift out of park: replace turbos

Check you CCV hose. it's known to burst and leak fumes making a mess in that corner. it's on the front corner of the engine (same side as turbo)
