Spoke to Dinan Regarding M2C Parts

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I spoke to Dinan and asked them about M2C parts. Below is what they told me:

Intake: Available now. It's the same as the F80 intake and you have to notch your front carbon brace to make it fit.

Exhaust: In development. Will probably be done summer or fall of this year. Most likely fall.

Tune: In development It will be out mostly likely fall or later.

Just to piggy back off this, Dinan commented the pricing and offerings a bit in this thread:

I have an M2 and had to notch my strut brace to fit their intake. Although I love the quality of their intakes, I would not be caught dead making a notch in the carbon brace on my M2C when I get it, not for any intake..

That sucks about having to alter the carbon strut brace to make the intake fit.. If they actually want to sell any intakes, they better engineer a way around that..

I look forward to the Dinantronics piggyback though; the quality of that unit and harness wiring is on par with BMW OEM and its a good option if you're seeking more power but don't want to break the ECU's electronic tamper seal and alter the factory mapping.

Looks like they are pretty late in the game. If anyone is mainly interested in Dinan because of their factory matched warranty, CarBahn Autoworks (Steve Dinan's new company) is planning to release a flash tune for M2C this month with factory matched warranty.

This. Cutting a notch into the CF strut brace? I sure hope these guys are trolling, or they don't actually intend to sell anything.

Agreed. Who the hell is going to alter the CF strut brace for an intake?

Sounds like poor engineering to me...

He sold Dinan Engineering to Driven Performance Brands long time ago but was still involved with the company until 2015.

Not sure why anyone would do piggyback alone anymore, now that the ECU is cracked...

Nice to have some options. Wonder how it would compare to an M4 CS tune...

Yeah, he left a while back, as mentioned. Another interesting point: Dinan used to bash piggybacks, until that's all they offered on the F8X platforms. It's good to see Steve Dinan's working on flash tunes again. I just like the cleaner setup, in theory.

For the S55 intake, you do not have to make a notch in the CF brace. You had to modify a plastic trim piece for the M2 N55 intake, but not for the S55. I ordered one, so we’ll have to see how it fits.

I'm not familiar with the Dinan M2C intake, so can't speak for that. But no... for the N55 M2 you have to cut the metal strut brace not a plastic trim piece.

Edit: Just looked at the M2C instructions and there is no mention of cutting for it.

You're right, it's sheet metal for the N55 intake, but not for the S55 intake.

Step 1: Remove CFRP Strut Brace
Step 2: Place on level ground.
Step 3: Mark precise location to be notched.
Step 4: Make sure you are wearing heavy duty boots for safety.
Step 5: Aim on marked area and stomp on it with your boots heel.
Step 6: Grab a beverage, sit back and admire your kung-fu skills.

Never understood why someone will build a company, no brand, then sell it and start a new company doing the same exact thing.

Do you know the backstory?

More money, one would assume.. Why else do people jump ship.

I do understand your skepticism though; Dinan was a well-know name, even the folks I know who doesn't know anything about BMWs itself recognizes Dinan as a prestigious aftermarket option.

I think Steve Dinan saw the writing on the wall with harder-to-crack ECU firewalls and the eventual future of electric cars and sold out short before the market tanked.

I can't imagine a piggyback or flash tuning option for a battery-operated vehicle
