BMW CPO - Proof of Tire Purchase
I just picked up a CPO 2015 335i GT on Friday and sure enough on Saturday morning I had a flat tire due to a nail in my run-flat Pirelli tire. I went to the local Mavis for a replacement and put down a deposit for a new tire. Upon researching further, I discovered that Pirelli has a one year run flat road hazard warranty that my ruined tire would qualify for (but I was unaware of earlier). I want to bring this to Mavis' attention when I pick up my tire and submit a warranty claim.
The question is - the warranty requires a proof of purchase for the tire. My bill of sale does not itemize anything that was added to the car to certify it (e.g. new tires). Can the BMW dealership I purchased from provide a proof of purchase for me or am I better off eating the deposit at Mavis and having BMW submit the claim for me/replace the tire? |

Didn't get a chance to run it by them yet given the holiday, but will reach out to them tomorrow. Just curious if anyone ever requested a detailed bill of sale or similar for a tire proof of purchase. I need to get back on the road and want to avoid ping ponging back and forth between dealer and Mavis.

Pirelli's Road Hazard warranty is only valid for the first 12 months of tire purchase, or the first 2/32nds of tread wear. See: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=226
It's highly doubtful that anyone at the dealership you acquired the car from will be willing to spend time digging service records/invoice for a warranty coverage that wasn't agreed upon, or explicitly advertised at the time the sales contract was drafted. Best of luck with your case, but personally, I don't think this is anything worth chasing after. |

You'd think they'd be able to provide something. At the same time, depending on how they purchase them, and any discounts they may receive by buying wholesale or you not being the original purchaser...the warranty may not transfer.

You'd have to make the claim through them. |

The tires could have been put on by the previous owner when they turned it it, so the dealer would not have anything to help.

Update - new tires were added to the car prior to purchase which is why I was inquiring. I reached out to Pirelli directly and they were extremely helpful. They told me to complete my purchase with Mavis, keep the original tire, and they will arrange for a pick up of the damaged tire for warranty coverage. In the future, Pirelli said to use Tire Rack as they will actively process the Pirelli warranty (i.e. their installers will hold on to the tire, file paperwork and return to Pirelli).
I had also contacted the dealership about supporting documentation and they said that Pirelli generally doesn't need anything from them as Pirelli will reference the DOT markings on the tire. That being said, the service manager said to reach out to him should I need additional support and he'd try to help me out. So everything worked out nicely - glad I didn't just replace and "move on with my life" |
