"Electric drive temporarily reduced" - 530e

I've been getting this message on most winter mornings. Battery fully charged overnight, I start driving to work, but there is no electric range ("- - -"). E-power cuts to the gas engine at just 10%. After a few minutes everything is back to normal, but I still don't like this.
Anyone else?

@ admin, can you move this thread to General?
I posted it in the wrong category. Thanks.

I'm not saying anything negative but my common sense leads me to believe that in cold winter days you will have a delay until the batteries warm up to operating temperature. Wouldn't think this is a negative thing as it maintains the cells longevity.

We have hit a cold snap here in greater Phoenix and my 530e suddenly gave me a picture of a snow flake and a temperature warning at 37 degrees F. But I don't remember seeing a message that my power was going to be reduced.

This is normal in sub freezing temps here in NY. I’ve learned to precondition (heating) the car using the app and it’s fine when ready to drive off

Interesting because I also run preconditioning almost every day. The cabin gets nice and warm but I still get the drive error.

I have seen this error in the UK cold/freeze mornings. As you say, it eventually goes away and normal service resumes.

My 530E went to service for a "engine warning" and tech said car need software update, since my range in the charging screen changed from 17/19 to 13/14 any thoughts ??

there are tons of posts on this. The idrive is merely giving you an estimate based on your past driving. Drive like you hate it and it gives you a low estimate; hypermile and it gives you a high estimate (although why anyone would buy a BMW and then hypermile is beyond me).

When the software is updated it goes back to the initial default.

Mine was updated in late December. Since then it has gone back up and now varies between 14 and 18 miles. But it is only an estimate. So if your estimate is low because you have been driving with a lead foot, and you then charge the car and drive very slowly and carefully with lots of brake regen, you will get way more than your reading.

My advice is to "forget about it". Drive the car like you hate it. My only concession is that on the way home, if I am driving local streets, I may change to EV only to use up the electrons but I still drive hard. That is why I bought a BMW.
