Question What modifications do you have planned for your G05?

So, as this is an enthusiast forum, I have been wondering what modifications people have planned for their new G05's.

For me, here is my short list which is always subject to change:

1. Chip tuning mod to get more power out of this twin turbo engine and make the X5 a bit more fun to drive.
2. Adding a sub to the current sound-system. Nothing crazy, just something that can be hidden but give a little more low end authority to music.
3. Possible blacked out grill? Curious to see how it will look on Saphire Black though...
4. Maybe an M-Sport exhaust if it actually comes out.
5. Roof rack for my bike and kayak.
6. PPF and Ceramic coating.

Thats what I have planned at the moment...

What about you?

Probably Chip tuning. Waiting to see what Dinan comes out with. As well as probably some kind of coating. Need to research more and get costs.

My understanding is the tuners that work with the b58 engines like what is in the 540i, work on the x5 as its the same exact. So the tuners are already out there to buy.

For my wife, I will just get her a JB4 on map 2. Thats it, everything else she wants is already in it.

If its not a Dinan installed by a bmw tech at a dealership then yes it will mess with warranty if you dont take it off before bringing it in for service. No they can not tell you had it on if you remove it.

I am curious if they have, or will have, chip tuning available for the 50i, as that is what I am getting. I do not plan on doing much else performance-wise, but do intend to get film and ceramic coating.

Sorry but it's bullshit. Of course they can check it in 1 minute! I know it for 100%. With chip or box your warranty is off and nobody will help you

Oh snap keyboard warrior! If you remove a tuner like jb4, dinan, there are no footprints. If you get an actual tune where someone programs the computer in your car then yes no hiding that.

I have a 50i right now and I'm telling you that there is really no need for a tune. Seriously, it's basically at the limit of how fast a 5000 lb SUV should be able to travel. I can't even fathom how fast the X5M will be if it's pushing 600 hp.

I can't agree with you BMW are not checking "footprints" ... They see temperature of many parts, how many PS or NM you were using, etc. So remove your box will change you another temperature, etc. history, but not past!

I did not order MSport. I toyed with the idea and my vehicle went into production before I could make the change. I'd like to replace the rubber molding around the wheel wells with the metal molding. I think there will be parts available for that? No idea how easy it would be to replace...

Assuming all goes well I'm planning the following:

XPEL full front wrap
Cermaic tint (15% front, 5% everywhere else, 80% on the windshield)
Opticoat cermaic coating (car + wheels and calipers)
IND blacked out grill
Swap runflats out with normal tires (Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+ or Pirelli P Zero AS+)

whatever else seems like a good idea or is interesting

So much misinformation here. Your warranty can only be voided if an issue is proven to be caused or likely to have been caused by an aftermarket modification. The dealer cannot void your suspension warranty because you have flashed your ecu for example.

Develop a good relationship with your service advisor, be honest with them and you'll be fine.

Take Delivery First

So, I've been biting my tongue since taking delivery of my 40i and reading threads like this, reading posters obsessed with exhaust notes, and the like. The vast majority of these posts are from folks who've yet to take delivery of their G05, or who even have no plans to order one.

As a first-time BMW and X5 owner, I don't have the frame of reference of lot of you have. But with all due respect, I think a lot of you are thinking this vehicle is something that it isn't. Many of you seem to want to turn it into a sports car. Maybe previous generations lent themselves to being modified and coded into beefy performance cars, but the G05 wonderfully hits the target I believe BMW is trying to hit with it.

From my vantage point, BMW is not positioning the G05 as a track car. It's a finely crafted (current issues notwithstanding), luxury automobile with a practical bent. And it is a BIG vehicle. Don't want to suggest that mods would be messing with "perfection," but it's a damn awesome vehicle right out of the box.

Before you lather over how you're going to change it, maybe you should own it first. Might change your mind.

It's just that my other car is an E63 AMG. It's one of the, if not the, most powerful production sedans made. So I totally get engines, handling, exhaust notes, tires, blah blah blah. Point is, that is a sports car. It perfectly fills that niche. Ditto the M5 Competition.

The G05 handsomely fills a very different niche. And attempting to move it very far out of that niche -- to me -- seems like a mistake. I think BMW has a total winner with this vehicle. They designed a gem, IMHO. Bigger engines, more horsepower, better handling -- and maybe even blacked out grilles :-) -- are coming from the factory. Those enhancements should make a terrific vehicle even terrific-er. You might want to defer to BMW's expertise with respect to such improvements.

Just want to suggest that just perhaps, BMW might be trying to more purposefully fill a specific niche with the G05... so that other vehicles in its portfolio can better fit their (higher-performance) niches.

Not finding the right way to express what I'm trying to say. It's not my intent to flame others, I don't want to diss anyone.

Anyone local to me that is interested in giving RaceChip a shot?
I'll work out a great deal.
I will need 1 for 40i and 1 for 50i.
RaceChip has been a favorite in F15/F16 X5/X6, F85/F86 X5M/X6M, and F90 M5 community.

Similar to my point, but let me take the other side — I didn't need the 50i. Nobody needs a 456 hp twin turbo V8 in what is effectively a daily driver and / or kid hauler for most people. However, we only have / need one car and my wife drives it probably 80% of the time. If I had my way, I would have looked at an M5, E63, RS7, etc. but that just won't work for the wife. She loves SUVs and won't go back to a sedan. So, as a compromise, she gets an SUV and I get something that is a little quicker, sportier and louder than your typical SUV. I know getting a 50i is not a mod, but I think to some extent people try to find a balance between need vs. want. If modifying the car gets them closer to that balance then more power to them.

Yep, absolutely. Shame on me for assuming every scenario involves more than one car, with each one intended for unique primary purposes/drivers. To your point... my wife has not once driven my AMG And the X5 will be her daily driver.

If my car wasn't in the picture, then I'd 've done more to make our build satisfy my enthusiast cravings. I'd 've lobbied for (and gotten) the 50i, ordered staggered summer 21's and a set of winter 20's, and on...

So I totally agree with you. Thanks for snapping me back to reality
