iDrive and Music from iOS Devices: Weird Behavior
Picked up our 2019 X5 yesterday.
There's definitely a learning curve with the new iDrive (I have a 2018 540 with iDrive 6 and this vehicle replaces a 2016 X5, which replaced a 2013 X3). However, it also seems a little glitchy. For example, we use an iPod Touch connected via USB for music. It plays fine, displays the artwork, etc--but you can no longer navigate through the list of music and select songs using the scroll wheel on the steering wheel or iDrive. I connected my iPhone XS Max via USB and it behaved the same way. I tried via Bluetooth and it was the same. When you try to scroll or look on iDrive, it just says "Please Wait." Later, I pulled one of the old iPod devices we have and tried that (it has the same music library on it). It worked as expected, which seems odd given how ancient that device is. We're using that for now. Anyone else seeing this sort of behavior? Also, for some reason, the car doesn't think I have BMW Connected installed on my iPhone but sees it on my wife's. Weird. |

Ive had this in the past with other bmw's, make sure the iPod has the latest software and reset the device, close all apps and switch off and then back on
This worked for me |

Update: Definitely glitchy.
Just tonight: Phone contacts all jumbled. Text messages arriving with no contact information. Now both the old iPod and the new iPod Touch are behaving erratically. I tried the one from my car with iOS 10 that is working perfectly and that one also won’t browse like both iOS 12 devices. This system does not seem to be playing well at all with Apple devices, which is surprising since iDrive on my 2018 540 is perfect. I called Genius tonight and they said they were aware of some of these issues. They have opened a case.... Last edited by MikeElmendorf; 11-09-2018 at 07:22 AM.. |
