Hey guys. I have a 2013 e92 335i 6MT that is FBO.

Today, I was driving on the highway (map 2, no e85, hot 88 degree soflo day).

I was in 6th gear and had to pass someone. I honestly stomped on it a little bit harder than usual and was around 70mph (relatively low RPM for the 6mt).

I've applied power with my foot like this before, but this time the car bucked a little, full blown CEL came on, and I completely lost power.

I pulled over, turned car off, then turned back on.

No more CEL, power is back (even did a few 3-4 pulls to redline) and car felt great.

I did not have a computer, so I couldn't tell you what the codes were, but they're completely gone now.

What happened?

Sounds like an underboost code for the gear. Check your STFT/LTFT for leaks....but it could have been a JB4 fault with the load values it was seeing if nothing mechanically is wrong (which I doubt).

Could you explain this in layman's terms?

and you're saying you think something is wrong mechanically? or just a random thing that happened?

Most likely a misfire, very common to happen with these cars and will cause reduced power but revert back to normal after a restart. First, don't ever floor it at a low rpm, it creates unnecessary stress/strain on the engine, either shift down a gear or two or slowly accelerate. Depending on how old your spark plugs/coils are, might be time to look into replacing them. But you should hook up a code reader and see what is stored, there will be at least one code from that incident.

Yes, thank you. I understand and I don't do this EVER. I work full time and i'm a full time MBA student. I happened to do this once and this issue happened to me once (first time in 3 years of owning this car, let alone being FBO.)

I also am under the assumption that I could have picked up bad gas last night.

These are all viable scenarios as to why this could have happened to my car.

Another scenario to look into...punch line is aftermarket Delphi coils from RockAuto that may have been counterfeit. Replaced with OEM Delphi coils and problem solved.
