I really miss not having the power window controls on the center console like in previous BMW's.I find myself inadevertently using the power window control for the rear left window instead of the driver window. Is it a design flaw or it's just me.

Agreed. It's just too far forward. Many people here agree.

I prefer the window buttons wear the shifter is, but I can't really bitch about it much, they work where they are

I dont mind them where they are...since this is my first BMW...had Hondas/Acuras/Nissans/Mazdas in the past...and the buttons on all of those were on the door...the only issue I have is that they are too far down...I keep opening the Pass. window instead of mine.

Thanks.

I agree they are too far down, but I like them better on the arm than in the center. On a related note, I wish there was a light on the mirror fold and left/right mirror selection buttons.

Agreed, they're too far down. I accidentally roll the rear passenger window down fairly often, too. I don't mind em on the door so much but maybe if they were a bit further back...

Absolutely not. They belong on the door just where they are. When I had an E46 loaner I thought the center console location was awkward.

Let's not rehash the "too far down" debate again.

Window controls

Driver door...I like it there. One thing I do like about the 3's cabin is the relative unclutter of the center area.

if i could choose, i would want them around the shifter like in previous bmws. i like having the ability to simultaneously hold on to my parking pass/ticket with my left hand and rolling down the window with my right.

I'd rather have them on the console like before. It took me a while to get use to them on the door in my X5, after having an E36 and E46.
I guess it won't be a big issue now when I get the new car since I'm use to having them on the door but I would still rather have them on the console.

my only problem with having them on the door is that i very often pull down the back windows because i don't reach all the way to the front window buttons.

You know what I would really like to have seen, the unlock button on the door...

If I have something in my rear seat, and I forget to unlock all the doors when I get out, I'm forced to perform a damn Cirque du Soleil contortion maneuver to reach the button from the outside...

Granted I have comfort access so I don't even know where my keys are half the time...

I don't mind the controls being on the doors, but agree with others here that they are a bit too far forward to be ergonimically optimal. I'm not Stretch Armstrong, so I too hit the left rear button when trying to open the driver's window.

I don't have the wingspan to do that and insert/swipe the card. How are you steering when you do this?

My seats almost all the way back and front window switches are out reach.

That being said, they should stay where they are, I have to lean forward to open a window sometimes, so what.

That's funny! I have to do the same thing sometimes.

just kidding. it's usually when i'm just inching forward going straight so i don't really need to have my hands on the steering wheel.

I had 6 1/2 years of centre console window lifts (BMW term) and my wife's merc has the lifts on the driver's door. I drive her car lots and I was always confused with the switch placements - poor little brain of mine!

Now with the switches in the same place, my brain is happy!!

No problem
