Digital Key with Comfort Access package

I picked up my X5 last on 10/20 and at the time they didn't have the digital key cards yet (supposed to come in Nov sometime). I then also found out that digital key doesn't work with iPhone yet since Apple hasn't fully opened up 3rd party NFC access (until iOS 12/12.1).

Anyone know more about this? I wanted to get a digital key card to use until iOS supports this.

Just an FYI, Apple released iOS 12.1 this past Tuesday (10.30.18). I am uncertain if Apple has opened NFC access to 3rd parties though. They did open 3rd party Nav Apps on CarPlay.

Yea, I'm also thinking now that they are allowing things like student ID, we can see this coming to cars soon enough:

Anyone know when BMW will start selling the digital card that you can carry around in your wallet?

This issue is not with Apple not allowing full access to is NFC, but rather the CCC digital key specification that Apple has chosen to implement. CCC has only released the V1.0 of the digital key specification and this is implemented in some Android phones. Apple has chosen to wait for the V2 of the specification to be released (expected Q1 2019). The V2 of the spec eliminates the need to visit the dealer to set up a phone as a key making the whole digital key experience much smoother. The current specification requires the phone to be 'setup' (usually by the dealer) a one-time activity for every new phone or whenever one changes the phone, I would rather wait for the V2 to be released and I am sure BMW/Apple is working closely with CCC on the draft versions of the V2 spec. It will soon be available will be my guess

Never understood that on every msport bmw I have ever owned, they black out all the trim and then leave the grill chrome, just looks out of place and you have to pay more for black grills to match the rest of the trim.

Digital Key only works on a handful of Samsung phones and Verizon refuses to allow it on their phones.
