Here’s what I want to hear from reviewers

when they finally get to drive this thing:
— A significant reduction in road noise
— The ability to control, or shut off the ASD
— Less harsh, metallic tweeters in the HK
— All four doors having lock sensors
— The ability to still lock-out stop-start

Hope you agree.

I don't think road noise is that bad, the HK system could be better but I don't find the tweeters overly bright, and I don't care about having rear comfort access. I do hope start-stop is defeatable though.

What I want to hear:

- If feedback is better from the steering
- If the suspension is actually tuned better on M Sport cars
- If the car is actually lighter and by how much
- If the standard LED headlights aren't bad enough to be rated POOR by the IIHS
- How the eDiff is in the M340i
- Does spare tire and non-RFT tires come as an option

Do you also want to know if it drives like a proper sport sedan?

I certainly didn’t make myself clear in my original post. I fully expect the M340i to handle better, be lots quicker, and do all the things reviewers have already praised. But now on my 8th BMW I’ve also come to know well the company’s nickel-and- dime attitude: cheep, $3 speakers in a system you’re already overpaying for, lock sensors on only the front door, apple play free only for a year or not at all, and up charges for a dozen things other manufacturers include (see the new G70). My point, poorly made, was to encourage others to add to a list of simple things BMW might include/change which make life a little better and which cost them little. Sorry.

Pretty sure all new BMW's will automatically turn on start stop (unless in sport mode). I'm sure it can be defeated by coding, but otherwise its being done due to the increasing emissions policies in europe i believe

Road noise is horrendous - my Peugeot 308 was better than the F30 at isolating this.

Interesting, if idiosyncratic, set of requirements there! However I don't believe any road test of the F3x has bemoaned these failings. Road tests to date have generally praised mechanical noise suppression in the 3 and especially the 4GC, at least on properly maintained roads...

I don't recall any previous commentary about the bright tweeters in the HK (is a road test ever that specific about one aspect of a cost-option extra?), and the auto-stop can be locked out by coding, but in any case is a European Thing which you just have to accept if you buy a car from there.

Turning off the ASD in the six-pot will unfortunately be unlikely as an iDrive option, especially with ever-more draconian EU noise regs stifling the exhaust.

What are lock sensors exactly...?

That's because the roads are terrible in England, and the Peugeot was built for crossing rutted fields . I recall some commentary about wind noise around the door mirrors in the F30, though, thrown into relief because background hubbub is generally pretty low.

I agree for the headlamps. My F36 has very bad standard xenon lights. Even my Golf MK6 has better halogen lamps.

Pretty sure it does, they all do these days. For most people they are very very good cars, looks aside. I would be shocked this car somehow drives worse then E90, F30, E46 etc. We take for granted that it is at the top of the pile on that regard.

The 4th point do you mean comfort access on the rear doors? And locking out start stop you mean to turn it off by default? The last item already exists in most of the newer F30s to remember last start stop setting. Not sure why they would change it back unless the efficient dynamics tree huggers are getting on their case again.

...Yes on point four. Regarding point five, I think I read that, in fact, permanently locking off start-stop could only be done through coding.

I agree with everything in your list. Of course there are other things, too, but those are the types of things most people overlook but that become annoying as you own the car for a while. I'm on my 7th BMW now and would like to stop being annoyed by some of these things.

Harsh HK tweeters being #1 on my list of annoyances but adjusting the EQ to be -2 at 2KHz helps a lot.
