Does extended warranty have any value in resale?
Hey guys, I'm considering getting an extended warranty for my car, whose factory expires in a month or so (dec'18).
I think the BMW dealer quoted me like $3.4k on a powertrain plus for +36mo/75k miles. Lower mileage package are priced not much lower than that. I plan to take my car to a shop for preventive care at least every 6 months on a specialized shop, so I wonder if spending this extra $3.4k on extended warranty has any value in case I decide to resell the car. Would it help hold the resale value in any way? My car is a 2015 M235i 6MT, whose warranty expires in Dec 2018. If I do decide to sell the car, it would still have like 12-18 months of warranty. Obs. 1: I don't abuse the car in any way. Obs. 2: I'm not interested in going third-party warranty. |

Honestly, I bought my car because it had that warranty until April 2020. And I picked this car over others because of it. So yes.. it does help the car sell better at a more desirable price than the market.. but the mileage should also be low.

Don't know about added value of a warranty if you trade the car in, but as Luftwaffe said, you may be able to get a pro-rated refund depending on the policy. If you sell the car yourself, you will definitely get more money if the car has a transferable warranty
