Anyone with a 2019 M40i model with PPF

I understand this steals about 9 bhp with the petrol particulate filter, have heard some comments about a different exhaust note and crackles and pops gone too?

Wondered if anyone has a 2019 model M40i with PPF to confirm any changes

That seems to be the consensus. Check this thread for further discussion: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1540370

I will have mine in a week or so and will confirm, though I have never previously heard the exhaust note in I real life so may be hard to tell if that is affected. Missing crackles and pops should be easier to tell. But I gather 0-60 is unaffected by the reduced HP.

Thanks look forward to you review, to me after the M235i I am not sure I am fussed if they crackles and pops have gone but would prefer the exhaust note isn’t too altered

My M40i arrives in 5 weeks and my jaw just dropped when I read that I wont have the crackles and pops. Does anyone know if BMW have communicated this design change to the engine note? Not holding my breath but was wondering as could not find anything on the old interweb.

I’m expecting mine in December and would also be interested in knowing if the exhaust is lacking the pops and bangs. It would be a shamed if it has been muted due to the PPF. Was looking forward to annoying the neighbours!

I received my M40i one week ago, equiped with PPF.
I've only drove 1200 km so far so I have not exceeded 4500 rpm, but so far, no crackles and pops.

Have sent BMW UK a tweet to see what they have to say about this issue. Will keep you posted.

Just take the PPF off and fit the earlier dump pipe. The non PPF one is the same on all models with a B58 engine (240i, 340i etc). If you retain the PPF and a warranty issue arises, put it back on before presenting the car for repair, too easy
