Blendmount direct wire cord to rear view mirror

Does anyone know exactly what trim piece I'm taking off to connect the Blendmount wire tap to the rear view mirror? Will I need to cut a small part of the trim to allow it to re-seat with the cord in place?

Also, if I do have to cut it, does anyone know the part number so I can order a replacement for when I return the car (it's a lease).

you won't need to cut anything, just pop it off. the mirror tap will turn off too, its just delayed a little bit. you DO NOT need to wire to glovebox for it to turn off on its own.

also, i took my radar and cable to my dealership and they plugged the mirror-tap in for free. it literally took less than 5 min.

So which of the three trim pieces behind the mirror is it and exactly how do I get it off?

Can you open the roof panel and see which wire they tapped into up there? I've always done the radar detector install myself. Would not want to drive all the way back to the dealer for the install.

I was able to get the cover off and it looks like the mirror tap can go into the purplpe/reddish plug at the top, but when I tried it was really tight and I broke one of the leads on the mirror tap cord. I've also read that the brown and green wires on the lower harness can be used as well. I'm waiting for my new cord to come and want to use the correct leads.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to open it up this weekend and see if I can find the wires your referencing. When your new cord arrives and your back in there please snap a picture or two. Thanks!

I just tried for a half an hour. I can't get the wire tap blades into the automatic wiper harness and I can't seem to figure out how to pull out the main harness plug. I'm back to using the 12V cord for now.

Well you got one step further than I did! I spent a while just trying to get the cover off and get access to the area. I'm leery of pulling anything too hard and breaking something since I just took delivery last week! I'm thinking I'll wait until my break-in service and ask the technician to help me figure out how to open things up. I assume they'll have maintenance instructions (and likely experience working in that area) to guide me.

It does take some force to get the piece off, but nothing broke.

Any update on which wires to tap into in the rear view mirror area? I would love to go this route, but so far no good information on which wires to tap into...

Thanks!

Just scheduled my break-in service for Friday the 16th. If we don't get any answers before then I plan to ask the tech how to get access to the area and to check his repair manuals for the 12v switched wire.

So, at least as far as this board is concerned, it seems no one has successfully installed a mirror power tap. This sucks because I'm picking up my car on Saturday, I really want it installed at the point of the rv mirror, and I can't point to an example of it being done so that the service foreman can believe that it's possible. Darn...
